Georgia congressman warns of Obama dictatorship

Good to see that there are people in Washington who are seeing what some of the rest of us are seeing.
Quote:
WASHINGTON (AP) — A Republican congressman from Georgia said Monday he fears that President-elect Obama will establish a Gestapo-like security force to impose a Marxist or fascist dictatorship.

"It may sound a bit crazy and off base, but the thing is, he's the one who proposed this national security force," Rep. Paul Broun said of Obama in an interview Monday with The Associated Press. "I'm just trying to bring attention to the fact that we may — may not, I hope not — but we may have a problem with that type of philosophy of radical socialism or Marxism."

Broun cited a July speech by Obama that has circulated on the Internet in which the then-Democratic presidential candidate called for a civilian force to take some of the national security burden off the military.

"That's exactly what Hitler did in Nazi Germany and it's exactly what the Soviet Union did," Broun said. "When he's proposing to have a national security force that's answering to him, that is as strong as the U.S. military, he's showing me signs of being Marxist."

Obama's comments about a national security force came during a speech in Colorado about building a new civil service corps. Among other things, he called for expanding the nation's foreign service and doubling the size of the Peace Corps "to renew our diplomacy."

"We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set," Obama said in July. "We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded."

Broun said he also believes Obama likely will move to ban gun ownership if he does build a national police force.

Obama has said he respects the Second Amendment right to bear arms and favors "common sense" gun laws. Gun rights advocates interpret that as meaning he'll at least enact curbs on ownership of assault weapons and concealed weapons. As an Illinois state lawmaker, Obama supported a ban on semiautomatic weapons and tighter restrictions on firearms generally.

"We can't be lulled into complacency," Broun said. "You have to remember that Adolf Hitler was elected in a democratic Germany. I'm not comparing him to Adolf Hitler. What I'm saying is there is the potential."

Obama's transition office did not respond immediately to Broun's remarks.

Oh, My, God..... Really?? Whats next. I have never seen so many people go so stupid over one election. Honestly. Give up. You Republican McCainiacs have to accept the fact your done for. This stuff is getting rediculously out of hand. And notice most of this trash is stated by other republicans. Its just sad. Really just sad. People are sooooo effin opposed to the president they are actually already considering killing him. FFS. Im about ready to move to another country not because Obama won, but because of all the idiot a-holes in this effin country that cant just grow the eff up and accept what has happened. You effin tools are retarded, do you really think he could build a gestapo in 4 years, when everything he does has to get pushed thru congress first? Holy christ!! Learn how the fucking government works you retarded tools. Why isnt anyone worried about Obama using the Marine Corps to do something retarded, because pretty sure thats the only force the President has direct control over. Geezus. Im just in awe at how ignorant and close minded this country has become. All of you. Fucking open your damn eyes.

Give up on the partisan politics. I claim no side, I call it as I see it regardless of the source.

You need to open your eyes. It's already been done. Public Law 109-364, the "John Warner Defense Authorization Act of 2007" (H.R.5122), signed into law by George W. Bush on October 17th, 2006. This law allows the President to declare a "public emergency" and station troops anywhere in America and take control of state-based National Guard units without the consent of the governor or local authorities, in order to "suppress public disorder."

President Bush seized this unprecedented power on the very same day that he signed the equally odious Military Commissions Act of 2006. In a sense, the two laws complement one another. One allows for torture and detention abroad, while the other seeks to enforce acquiescence at home, preparing to order the military onto the streets of America. Remember, the term for putting an area under military law enforcement control is precise; the term is "martial law."

Bill of Rights Defense Committee - http://www.bordc.org/threats/hr5122.php

Therefore, saying it can't be done is an understatement.

Re: Georgia congressman warns of Obama dictatorship

A lot of republicans "don't like either candidate," but totally wanted McCain to win, lol. Or some such thing.

The article you posted is honestly whack. I know people say strange things, especially when they are lashing out, as this congressman is obviously doing, because they feel as though they have been stranded or had something taken away. Democrats did similar things when bush stole his second election. See what I did there?

But seriously, please don't believe this article or anyone who talks about this junk. It won't happen, things will go on as normal, and probably get better. The BEST thing this country could do right now is to cut our losses, look the other way of sunk costs and get the hell out of the middle east and invest heavily in domestic alternative fuel production. disassociating ourselves from that region is the key to the US' future prosperity and security. Too many people have gotten filthy rich from oil coming out of that region, and they got so powerful, they infiltrated the top tiers of this gub'ment (see what I did there?) and ran this bitch for 8 years. It's time to stop the REAL b.s. and that's putting aside the country's wellbeing for short-term profit for big corporations, big oil, and a select few elite ceo's and their ilk.

Re: Georgia congressman warns of Obama dictatorship

Hey, I never called you a moron, did I?

It really is a good idea stop the flow of money to the middle east. That's what started this problem in the first place. they wouldn't have had a problem with the US if we had not exerted so much influence there.

The real moron here is the congressman who believes that bull he's saying.

Re: Georgia congressman warns of Obama dictatorship

And so by bush enacting these laws this is somehow directly related to a president who hasnt shown any indication of wanting to start a dictatorship??? Whack jobs. All of you. Remember it was in fact bush who signed our liberties away, not Obama.

And you really just think that Obama is going to take office in january, then BAM declare the whole fucking country into a state of emergency therefore forcing his socialist ways upon us all thru use of military...... right................. that makes alot of sense. I cant wait for 4 uneventful years to go by so I can litterally shit in my hand and rub it in your face.

Re: Georgia congressman warns of Obama dictatorship

wanna stop the flow of our money to the middle east? start writing barry hussein obama to drill for more domestic oil. alternative energy in its current( and near forseeable future) state is not economically feasable. ethanol is expensive to produce. more energy goes into making it than you get burning it. its only cheap for us now because of gov't subs. we could be importing it from south america, where its made from sugar cane, not corn, thus lowering our food prices. this would be a good source for renewable energy. best thing, though, is more supply of domestic oil, more refineries(JOBS!!!! YAY!!) and more fuel efficient cars to offset all us crazy bastards with the gas guzzling vehicles!!! ok, rant over.

Re: Georgia congressman warns of Obama dictatorship

I don't hold a strong position on either side of things, One thing I wonder and think about is the coin flip that the market is working with. I look at the market in a few lights, The war has its pull in its own little way. Then the speculation that draws a lot of flow in either direction. Then also the election value that in itself is a 50/50 toss up. I try and monitor things as best as I can, Yet it really seems pointless. Throw unemployment in there among other things. This country is embarrassing, I play a few games online and have a few friends in the aussie world and they just laugh about it. I don't consider myself that smart when it comes to any of this and yet I watch it all and just shake my head. The next ten years of all of our lives are in a trench. The next selection of people that will jump out of the wood works to run for president since obama got it is going to be right out of a cartoon.

Oh well, My rambling at 2:30 in the morning has bound to have its flaws but I am sure some will see where I am coming from. We live in a very disappointing time no matter who we wanted in the white house.

Re: Georgia congressman warns of Obama dictatorship

Yeah, no democrats were butthurt over the last two elections. It happens on both sides equally, that's the way it is.

It really boils down to the fact that there's two ways of looking at almost everything as it relates to our country. About half on either side, hence the democrat and republican parties. We can sit and bicker all we want, but it's kinda like creation versus evolution, nobody on earth can say for fact that either one is correct and prove it, kinda like politics. In the end we're all going to believe what we want and that's that.
