Good read on Oil.

With all the oil talk lately, plus I forgot what oil I was going to run so I had to find this again the other night.

Re: Good read on Oil.

I once sent in a sample of oil from a GM engine that had severely overheated the oil on the road course, no oil cooler on the car and his oil overheat light came on multiple times and he didn't stop racing. The oil smelled absolutely horrible. In the results, they said the oil was still fine, but there the metal content was a little high, so it should probably be changed. I guess they didn't read the note that the motor blew up and there was a hole the size of a football in the side of the block from the forged rods going through it after the oil failed and spun the bearings enough to seize it.

Re: Good read on Oil.

My favorite is when he makes excuses as to how the lab reports are wrong when it fits his agenda, but touts them when he agrees. It's one or the other... Nothing more than the same old Amsoil propoganda if you ask me. People forget other anti-wear additives exist beyond zinc and phosphorus; in my opinion this is out-dated thinking/technology, but makes for great advertising.

Agreed. API certification exists for a reason.
