Short/longblock, 2g FWD transmission.

I am curious what everyone has as I may be getting another project. I am looking for a 1g 7 bolt longblock, but would also consider a shortblock. I’m looking to spend around $200-250.

I am also looking for a 2g FWD trans. for around $200-250 as well.

Just let me know what you have, thanks.

I'm thinking about dropping the whole project idea. FWD trans. are gold now apparently. Didn't you sell yours for $250?

Re: Short/longblock, 2g FWD transmission.

Someone has to have a reasonably priced transmission for sale or laying around. I've talked to three people who've sold them for UNDER $200 in the last two days. Chris is one if them.

Help me out guys.

Shortblock; cheap. Probably $200-250; $250 if it were in great condition. Longblock; about the same, if anyone has one they really wana' get rid of. I'd be willing to maybe go $300 if it was in great condition as well. I'm not looking to spend that much though..if I don't have to anyway.

$300 for a running longblock? That's crazy! IMO, I've never seen one go for less than $500 even with 130-140 compression. Probably why you haven't found one yet. I've sold a few with good compression and proved they were running for $800-$1200.

Everything that I know of that is out there right now is almost double what you want to spend so sorry I can't help ya in any way.

If you want to go that cheap you might want to move onto a different car or a different hobby. I bet if you get it running for that cheap, we will see a part out thread with in months to follow because it will fail you. You get what you pay for.

Not true. I've heard stories from people picking them up for far cheaper than what I am willing to spend. A person can damn near buy a built block for $800-1200. Call it crazy if you want, but it is still stock; it isn't gold.

Thanks for your opinion however it really doesn't change too much. As stated above, I've heard of others getting parts for cheaper than I am looking to buy them for and having had zero problems.

I also recall seeing the parts I am looking for, for cheaper not all too long ago. It only figures when I need it none are to be found.

It would really depend on how well of condition it is in. How many miles it had on it before it was taken apart and such.

Re: Short/longblock, 2g FWD transmission.

A short block yes. $250-$350. But not a runny long block. Like Kerry said you get what you pay for.

Sure you can find really good deals out there, but that's when a seller gets desperate or has no idea what a good running long block is actually worth.

BTW all the long blocks I have sold were stock pulled from a running car.

Also there is no way in hell you can get a build a short block for $1000-$1200 even the forged internals are gonna run close to $900 new. Then finding a block $50-$250. Machine work $250-700. Bearings $100. Then if you don't know how to assemble add another $300. So your at least looking at $1500 and we haven't even touched gaskets or the head.

Yes used will always be cheaper but you still run the risk of it being garbage.

Best thing in my opinion is find a car with a good running motor and trans pull it and part the car if it's beat up. Then you might get a motor and trans for free.
