Re: House Projects

I've seen a lot of insanely priced screens with special materials and paint and such. How does a white wall compare? Are you using special paint? I want to make a projector room as well but several hundred dollars on a screen seems unnecessary.

Re: House Projects

Aaron, the game is at 5:30 on Feb 1 i believe. Will let you know what time the party starts, but probably like 4ish. We will have beer, and a main food dish. Askinv if everyone else can just bring something to share, whether it food, pop, kush, or what was that stuff we used to eat back in the day...

Andrew, my buddy has this same projector and just projects it onto his off-white wall and it looks fine to me. He has a screen he bought, but once he saw it just projected on his wall he decided not to install a screen. However here is what i will be doing.

Re: House Projects

Small update. First pass taping/mudding done. They still think by the end of the weekend the room will be "ready for carpet" which I think means all the way done through paint. Seems aggressive but I suppose time will tell.

Also I picked up a new Sony smart Blu-ray player with 3D/WiFi. That way this whole setup can be like a smart TV with Netflix and what not.

Also grabbed an Amazon 50 mile range OTA Antenna from Aaron. Damn, I hooked it up to where our cable splitters are in the furnace room, so it's now feeding all of our cable jacks except two. I had 5 TV's on at once last night, all feeding from this one antenna (which is in a far less than ideal mounting position to receive a signal) and everything is working awesome! Just bought another one today for my dad.

Re: House Projects

ASR Remodel. They have a few vids on youtube.

He is former military, went through the same school program I did in the military, just several years before me lol. Got out and became an automation engineer (also like me) and eventually decided to just start working for himself and doing this as he got older. He went to school to get certified in electrical (NEC) and HVAC, so he actually holds legit certs, not just some guy who read the rules online. So he is no dummy, and had the ability in my opinion to not just finish the room in a basic sense, but to see it all the way through from telling me what to do for sound proofing, mouting in cieling speakers, running all the low voltage wirinv, mouting the components, create a screen, etc because he has a technical backround. Literally seeing it all the way through from studs to surround sound. Real nice and cool guy, couldnt be happier with him. If anyone wants his contact info let me know. He's also in the middle of doing a complete interior revamp of some big baller house in Chanhassen he keeps wanting me to come see.

I prepped and painted the wall at my old house and was pretty happy with the results. Worked well for me plus unless you put a big dollar screen next to it, you can't really notice. Plus if it Sucks, just paint the wall no big dollars invested...

Re: House Projects

I suppose I can add something to this thread now. We sold our house and are in the process of moving to Champlin. We picked up a house from a flipper that did a crappy job, but put in a lot of nice items, like granite countertops, tons of tile work and all new carpet. The bad part is that they went cheap on a lot of things, and did a crappy job on others.

In the living room/kitchen area, they went open concept and removed some walls and cabinets. Unfortunately they just patched the popcorn ceiling and it looked like ass. Fortunately, I've been wanting to get rid of the popcorn anyway, so before we move our stuff in this weekend, I scraped all the popcorn, repaired the sheetrock underneath, and am filling in the previous light fixture holes for all recessed LED lighting. The ceiling will be knockdown with thick crown molding to follow this summer. Oh yeah, it's got a bigger 3-car garage then our old house and room for toys behind it. On to the starting pics.

Re: House Projects

Update.

Painting done. Walls are a deep crimson color, ceiling is a semi-dark tan.

In ceiling speakers are installed.

Projector is mounted (wiring to be cleaned up and the pass through gland for the signal cables still needs to be installed). Wife and I sat there for quite awhile today to figure out what size to set the screen to and we ended up leaving it at 106". Looks awesome, and right now it's just being projected onto the crimson wall lol. Can't wait to see what it'll look like once the screen is painted.

All electrical done (i.e. sconces installed, all outlets done, dimmer switches done). I must say I think we nailed it with the lighting, especially those sconces, they look phenominal.

I think that's about it for now. Tomorrow we will be painting the screen. Coat of primer, and then probably 2 coats of the Sherwin Williams paint I linked to earlier. Not sure what else he has planned for tomorrow, but here's what I see is left. Finish up low voltage stuff, install wood trim, build and install wood counter top (he said the bar top won't be done by super bowl unfortunately), carpet (scheduled for Friday), then basically just move all the components into the room and clean the shit out of everything because of all the dust that's been created.

Also we picked up a couple sweet power reclining seating from Dock 86 Saturday. It's going to be a tight fit for them to fit in the room, so we'll see. If they don't fit right, we have 7 days from delivery to return them. Hopefully they work out though! They will be delivered Saturday.

Pics!
