Re: Dave's Evo X Build

I say take the car to the dealership and see if they'll cover the oil leak under warranty. The more heavily modded you get the better chance you have of your warranty being voided so if you're going to do it, might as well do it now.

With that said, I had my car in at the dealership yesterday and they couldn't have been nicer about it. They didn't care at all about the mods and said they're going to try and get the issue covered.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build

It's too late, my turbo and manifold are all off right now and they said it would take an hour max since it is on the manifold side. So they are going to fix it for me quick, they looked up how to do it. I am not too worried, it will all work out.

I do as much as I can myself and time allows. This car is basically new and it's tough to take your time on your only car.

I just went and bought 200 bucks worth of tools etc to do the installs this week. Now I have more tools to do stuff next time. I am usually limited only by the tools I have, not the inability to do the job. My cams were really the only thing I didn't do up until this recent round.

More of a tank than the 8/9! If by tank you mean weight (i suppose you could be referring to the ability to withstand abuse, but am more inclined to think the first)

Umm, the line that I quoted was clearly discussing reliability. I was using the word 'project' euphemistically for "shit breaks."

Even cars that are well maintained and stock after 7-8 years can become projects. Things break down and stuff has to be fixed, such is life.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build

She looks great with all the new mods it is going to be alot of fun for sure. I can't even fathom what it is like to have that kind of power on tap for a DD.

If you take the stencil off the AMS cooler for a bit of understatment, it would be a stock appearing car with a big ole can of whoop ass!

Btw.. I am still on the stock clutch as well. *Crosses fingers* Hoping to make through the next season of auto cross launches! Maybe we should have a support group?

The stock X clutch is stronger then people say(lot of bad drivers out there and people who launch the shit out of their car). I am hoping with my mild tune, I will probably be making less torque, so I am hoping the clutch will endure a month or two. The clutch is directly related to driving style.

Well here is the bizarreness of my clutch, One day on my way into work I gunned in 1st from a stop making a right turn. At first it didnt slip then half way through the rpm range it started slipping like mad to redline. There was a nice burnt clutch smell and was thinking crap the clutch is toast. That was 5000 miles ago, since that day it has not slipped again. My car now has 11,000 miles on it and about 40 or so launches at 4,000 - 5,000 rpm from autocross. So far I am believer like you are it is driving style and habits more then anything. I wonder does this car have a clutch delay valve similar to the BMW's? I could never get my old bimmer to shift smooth and this car acts lil like that.

I guess you guys have a different definition of projects then, but you guys have new cars and they are projects now I think as you are shaping them in ways that you want them to be.

Sorry I am not around Dave, if not I would lend you tools since I am local and most of my stuff is engraved so its ok as long as I don't forget about them.

I'll be back in may and Im down to lend a hand.

^Thanks for the offer, but my car will hopefully be done by May

However, once I start breaking stuff you can help, lol.

Must be normal since the same thing happened to me--I think you had commented on my FB post about it. My clutch still had plenty of life in it but I decided to get a new one in and broken in before adding power.

A poor choice of words, perhaps. My experience has been that cars start becoming annoying (maintenance needs) at 60k miles and up. I'm just hoping to get everything done while the car is new enough to have 50k of trouble-free fun.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build

^lol, its cool. I've never owned a car with less that 60k i think i had an integra with 52k actually, but well it was an AT integra.
I think once you do a T-belt and it isn't a high mileage motor (160kish maybe) then its not too bad.
Maybe someone can find a way to change these things to a timing chain.

100% truth right there. Clutch life is directly related to driving style. Some people with bone stock Evos can kill a stock clutch in 5k miles while others with nearly 400whp can make their stock go well beyond 60k. Heck, there is one guy on EvoM with nearly 200k on his stock Evo VIII clutch.
