That's the thing, I don't really like anything enough right now to sell this car.

If I was going straight drag, the SN95 or F-body chassis, but I still want a mix of street and strip.

If I was going after R&D; New Supra or C8 Corvette

Fun street car that is rare? Maybe a viper or something Italian?

In the end, I like this chassis a lot, so I am sticking with it for now.

As far as the C8 and impact on the older models, I really don't see how the C5's could get cheaper. The Auto base models are now in used toyota corolla territory. Mine is a bit more rare, but only to an enthusiast.

Re: Back into the big leagues: Project FRC

Picked up some goodies yesterday.

2007 Corvette Z51 full rear cradle. I'll be selling what I don't need off this. A 2009+ is ideal but I can tweak this a bit to fit the differential setup.

Also pictured is the 12mm Torque tube that is an upgrade.

Today I ordered the conversion "kit", includes TR6060 lines, differential/transmission mounts, and new diff cover to eliminate the heat sink.

Working on securing a differential and probably ordering a new transmission. Then should be set to assembly later in April.

If anyone needs the following, let me know :
  • 87,3xx mile T56 Transmission from C5
  • 3.42 1 Rib C5 differential
  • Hinson Supercar mount
  • Custom Bracing setup
  • C6 upper control arms
  • C6 hub/knuckle
  • C6 rear shocks
  • C6 Rear brake rotors
  • C6 axles

<--end goal.

Awesome gains. What about a coyote with 6r80? Those trans and motors are providing to be very stout. If i was building a drag car, that seems like one of the simplest and affordable recipes for 9's out there right now

I'd swap chassis. This is still a street car that can run out to it's potential. That is the goal, a consistant and fun stick car. I'd love it if it goes 10's off the bat, but it will probably take some work to get there.

Car still has interior, stereo, a/c, all emissions, etc..

Re: Back into the big leagues: Project FRC

Alright I've been very busy with work/life/ranch work on the property and then this thing.

I cooked a starter on the dyno and when I dropped the inspection cover found a chipped flywheel. As I had to rip the entire drivetrain out to replace/repair this flywheel I decided to go off the deep end.

I swapped in a brand new TR6060 out of a 09+ Spec Z06 and a 07 Z06 differential. With this swap came in a C6 rear Cradle, C6 Lower control arms, ECS Transmission/differential brace and torque tube tamer. I also put in energy suspension bushings in all components in the rear.

While I was there I upgraded to a 12MM torque tube with Driveshaft Shop Poly couplers, new bearings, and ARP Hardware.

While reviewing the car and looking it over, I realized I dyno'd on stock plugs and they were cooked. I swapped in TR6 plugs (1 range colder) and sent my throttle body out to Tony Mamo for a port job. Also had my shifter box rebuilt as well and diy'd a 4" intake.

The headers did not fit well with the 6 bolt heads as they kept hitting the flanges, so I decided to go with Hinson Supercar 1-7/8" catless headers. That means I pulled emissions out. The emissions delete and the intake modifications dropped 8lbs off the nose of the car. Also they sound pretty good (youtube video of start up below) Finally I DEI wrapped the crap out of everything, including my mini starter.

Finally started it back up last night:
https://youtu.be/UvBX2V95MVY

Finally I have some cosmetic things to install, carbon fiber wing and such.

Eventually I'll get it back on the dyno. Would be nice to have a 450+ chart, maybe even 460 with the changes, time will tell.

Hopefully I can find time to get to the track on a night pass in July/August

Ultimately I'd like to get sent home right away and click off a high 10 second quarter mile on the tiny hoosiers. Then I'll just do some car shows and debate what to do with the car next, most likely a 6 point cage, lighter seats to offset some of the cage weight, and try to make it a reliable 10.5 or 11.0 car. Maybe bottle feed it down a 10.0 car, will see how it all shakes out at the track.

Re: Back into the big leagues: Project FRC

Went to the track Friday night. 11.3 was on the second of 3 hits.

Still learning to launch on this setup. Here is the youtube video:

https://youtu.be/f4l5zC0Bn3o

1.67 60', I think it has a 1.5 in it with more practice. Tire setup is Hoosier Quick Time Pro's 16x9.5x26" on Camaro 16x8 wheels. 17x4.5 M&H skinny setup on the front. I was running 21psi hot, so more to go!

Goal still stands of 10.99 on the motor.

Re: Back into the big leagues: Project FRC

Thanks Guys. I am adding a few things (hit/clutch tamer and line lock) for next season. Goals is to crack some high 1.4's and run consistent 1.5 60's. That should put me to the high 10's on the motor. Then I'll plate it with a 100-200 shot.

Still on the stock shortblock . Plan is coming together, stay tuned

First hit was a 1.9 60' bog, 11.9@119
2nd was the 1.67 60', to much clutch slip, 11.3@122.
3rd and final was a 1.8 60' hop, peddle, recover, 11.7@119.

Go like my youtube channel please, trying to grow that and will post more track videos there.

That's better power than I would've expected from the 5.7 and bolt on's.

It's a head/cam car with bolt on's.

Power:
Texas Speed PRC 225 Heads ~ 11.0 compression ratio
Texas Speed 228/232 112+2 cam
Dorman Ls2 Intake Manifold ported by Aric @ MAP
92 MM TB ported by Tony Mamo
Hinson 1-7/8" longtubes
Hinson Catless X-pipe
Corsa Catback
4" Intake with Blackwing air filter, no MAF
Tuned by me, assembled by me, Shell 93 octane
44lb injectors
Stock 88k mile LS1 shortblock

Drivetrain:
2013 TR6060 Z06 transmission
2008 C6Z06 differential
12mm Torque tube with Driveshaft Shop couplers and ARP hardware
McLeod RST Twin Disc Clutch with McLeod steel flywheel
MTI Racing Six shooter short shifter
TMODCustoms Derlin bushing shifter box

Suspension/chassis:

RKT56 solid differential mounts
AMP motorsports Solid motor mounts
Torque Tube tamer - East Coast Supercharger
Transmission/differential brace - ECS
Bilstein Shocks -C6-Z06 valving
C51 swaybars
Energy Suspension rear bushings - Poly
Poly swaybar mounts
Solid aluminum steering rack mount
DEI everything I could to keep heat down

I need to put it back on the rollers, but expect it to be around 450ish whp now, gets around 32mpg on the highway. Full interior, cold A/C, need to work on the stereo upgrades here. For next season I'm looking at some assists to help launch and a 50-150 shot of nitrous most likely. A Fast manifold should be another 10-20hp, but not sure I need that if I can pull some weight out of it.

It's coming together as a street car

Nice work.

I've had good luck with this:

I have it in my fusion and I love it. Full android function in car is very nice.

Im also looking at the clutch tamer. I have been chatting with them and they are recommending their new hydraulic version for me. Which version are you considering? Big thing for me is that ideally I don't want it to affect any gears other than 1st.

Re: Back into the big leagues: Project FRC

I'm looking at the hit master B-man.

Update to the mods:
Adding a light weight battery (should drop around 25-28 lbs) and a line lock this week. I have one last crack at it next Saturday night if weather holds out, otherwise 10's will have to wait until next year.

Also ordered a Amazon Fire 7 for the dual din project this "winter".

Re: Back into the big leagues: Project FRC

Been making progress. Of course nothing goes as fast as you want it to.

Installed the LineLock, Nitrous system, and LNC-2000 timing controller and 2 step with a lighter battery (should offset the weight of the nitrous kit)

Also installed a backup camera, Dual Din radio setup (went with the ATO A6, not the amazon fire pad), wideband gauge (14point7, with switch reads both banks), and switches to control it all. Finally I added a hardwire kit to the fuel pump and a boost a pump.

Need to do before track time:
Bleed front brakes (rears done)
Oil Change
Spark plug change

Things I am working on as well before TX2k2020:
Making the fuel covers fit and cover the wiring
Front mesh for the air intake
Some interior leather and hydro carbon bits
Upgrading lights
New street tires in the rear, more drag radial focused.

Hoping for that 10.999 off the bottle and maybe a 10.5 with a little oxygen assistance.

Fuel rail covers are back on and fit after some massaging. Need to do some wet standing and touch up some clear on the edges, but they should work.

Ready to serve up some 1/2 price apps at Gapplebees.

Made some shakedown passes last night.

Chasing some Knock retard in the tune, think I found it. Need to get this car to come out of the hole harder.

Re: Back into the big leagues: Project FRC

Update:

Re-doing some of the setup. On the 75 pill I am not happy with the pressure drop when opening the fuel solenoid and it is still tracking leaner.

So I am swapping to a larger intake manifold, Ported FAST 102 from Tony Mamo. He feels that it should pick up 20+RWHP in most of the powerband, will see! Since I dyno'd last (445) I ported the throttle body and went to a 4" intake, that has yielded 122mph traps N/A.

In addition, I am adding a fuel pump, adding a fuel pressure regulator, adding a return line, switching to a newer style PCV setup, switching out nitrous plates, switching to a nitrous progressive controller and tidying up the "top end" overall.

Ideally it cranks out 470+ N/A when its back together. Then back to the track, see if I can find that 10.99 I'm after. I'll also dyno it on the 100 pills and see what we do.

Have to keep busy during this covid-19 situation!
