Tuning Question

Hey guys i have a question for the more experienced DSM'ers.

Im looking to get my car tuned professionally for the first time.

I have a new motor that i am looking to get tuned i just got done welding new charge pipes and intake and installing SD. So far it only has maybe 10 mins of idle on it. And have yet to install the SD. I was curious about the break in process. Is it smart to trailer a car for them to tune with only idle time and newly installed SD. Sense this is my first motor build i have done, i don't want to mess it up/ cannot afford it. Im just uneasy with running the car sense it blew up with the tune it has now. Last thing i want to happen is bring it to them and have problems or for them to wonder why i brought them a car thats not broke in. And i don't know if its okay to push a motor on a dyno with basically no run time. Any knowledge id greatly take it. thanks guys

Re: Tuning Question

Where do you plan on bringing it for a tune? I'd consult them.

I've broken in dozens and dozens of vehicles on the dyno in my day. Most of the time it would be seating the rings and breaking cylinder glaze, oil change, and then giving it hell for a race car setup.

Idling only with a poor tune, especially a rich one, can cause massive problems such as washed out cylinder walls, fuel in the oil, and spun bearings.

Re: Tuning Question

I always break in my motors on the street with some decent pulls, but it can be done on the dyno as well. I just like to drive it a bit to resolve any small issues like fluid leaks before I go make a mess on someone's dyno.
