Fp green or red

Just looking around to see if anyone has either an fp green or an fp red. Considering upgrading from my evo3. Looking for one that is ready to bolt on and doesn't need rebuilt, low miles and little to no shaft play. Please let me know if you have one and what you would want for it.

Thank you!

FP is having a sale on RED or Green's for $899

MAP might sell you a PTE bolton for a good price.

Re: Fp green or red

Don't go PTE over FP!!! FP has such a great customer service basis and fantastic designs and upgrades over PTE for the same price. The stock frame saves you time and money and in the words of Justin from DSMTuners, PTE journal bearing turbos are NOT in the least reliable. I have an FP Black and am speaking from experience. Hope this helps.

Re: Fp green or red

How much power do you want to make? The red is rated for 5lb/min higher flow than the green and has a more linear if you will, turbine wheel design than the green which should make for a similar spool.

Re: Fp green or red

Not too concerned with the amount of power I will make, yet, I am picking up a 2.3 from cornfed this friday and am considering getting either a red or green because all I have right now is an evi III 16g, Potentially i would like to get alot of power out of it, but my car is mainly used on the street, havent gotten it on a track yet. So basically looking for a good street set up

Re: Fp green or red

I would say get the red or black for the 2.3. Nick is a great guy! The spool of any FP is really quite good and they are so easy to install and work with. I definitely recommend external wastegate on anything larger than the green though. As a general rule of thumb, 1 lb/min of airflow roughly equates to 10hp. on a well machined and tuned engine.

Oh for sure I know he is, Known him for a while now, I was mainly looking at the red or green, due to the fact that nick actually told me he would suggest one of those, and it doesnt hurt that they are damn near half price right now

Turns out the black is only $50 more right now but yea I hear ya. I'd say green for internal wastegate, but red for the power in the long run and it would work great with that setup. Yes both will spool faster than the black that's for sure. Are you auto or manual?

Manual. I am fairly new to these things and this will sound stupid, but what is the difference in external to internally gated? Likee what advantages are there?

Re: Fp green or red

Well, I just got done bolting up my old school Green tonight. I had the Red many years ago when I still had a 2.0, great turbo, made a lot of power and was decent on the street. More recently I had the E316g with a 2.4. Crazy spool, made 350ish dynojet on pump gas, but not quite enough, so I picked up a Green. I was waiting for a sale on these things, but it never came, so I scored a nice deal on the old style one, freshly rebuilt by Justin. I've now almost completely duplicated the 2.4 Green setup I had in my Evo, which was the best combination I've ever had, just in a cheaper DSM package.

I'd put it this way, with the 2.3, if you want a great street car and around 400whp on pump, get the Green. If you want a weekend 10-second car with no intentions of turning the wheel at an event, get the Red. I would think the new style HTA Red with a 2.3 would spool about even with a 2.0 and the Green, but make another 100+horsepower.

Are you referring to internally gated or externally, cause that is my debate right now, I want to figure out which of the two would work best for a great street set up

Re: Fp green or red

Go external. Recirculated or Atmosphere dump, the choice is yours.
External gates are intended to give a more precise control on boost levels, while they also help with "boost creep".

Re: Fp green or red

The only thing im not a fan of is the warrenty or lack there of from fp. They do make great turbos but have you considered a garret turbo? amazing warrenty on the ball bearing stuff. ball bearing exchange program is top notch. they now have a gtx line that is very bad ass. unless you are just trying to keep that stock appearing thing going I guess. BTW not a ploy against fp at all. I am still concidering letting them upgrade my 35r

Re: Fp green or red

I was actually thinking about the gtx, but then again, cannot find one for a decent price, I looked online, unless I am looking at the wrong turbo they were $3000+. The red and feh green are $899 right now, that is one main reason I was looking at fp.
