starter issues

ok guys, i'm having major starter issues... I have a 98 GST. I picked up a starter from Jhaan Dude on friday and installed it tonight. When I first started it up, it made a grinding noise, then a second time it started right up, perfectly. I drove out to EP lanes and parked the car for about an hour or so. When I left and tried to start it nuthin would turn. All it would do is make a quiet like power up noise. Hard to explain, but nuthing turned over, it just made that noise when I turned the keys. I switched the starter because it was doing that same thing. I thought it was the starters bearing. Is the starters in 95-96's different from 97-99, because everything bolted right up and it started right away...at first. All help with this would be awesome because this is really pissing me off, i'm getting tired of push starting it.

Re: starter issues

everything was tightened down to spec and stuff. Could it be something else that i'm overlooking? I had the car parked for about 3 months due to a dwi, I changed the alternator about 6 months ago. Could it maybe be the flywheel possibly?

Re: starter issues

Have someone else try and start it. If it sounds like the starter is just spinning it is your flywheel.

Re: starter issues

ok lemme just try to play this out for whoever can help me with this. I have a 98 GST with a 91 6bolt motor. I used my old starter off of the 98 stock 7bolt motor. It worked fine and dandy. As of late as you know i've been having major problems. So I picked up a 95 Talon AWD starter from Jhaan_Dude. Would the 95 starter work on my set-up?
