Clutch Fade - Solution?

I have a ACT 2600 w/ street disk.

I did a back to back race with some guy, 1st race no prob. 2nd race the clutch slipped like crazy (bouncing off the rev limiter), burnt clutch just stunk up the car. I thought it was completely done. Well, after it cooled down, I did a few highway pulls and it's fine. So my issue was the disk couldn't handle the heat/it faded.

Should I just trying using an ACT sprung ceramic 6 puck?

Or should I say "eff it" and get a MAP/QM twin disk?

I want something that can handle more heat, more power, better fade resistance. I also don't want to upgrade if/when I get to the 400+ ft-lb range. (I'm only at 402awhp/335ftlbs)

Thanks for your opinions.

Re: Clutch Fade - Solution?

You could look into a Competition stage 4. They are rated to right around 420 lbft. I just picked one up and will probably be installing it in a couple weeks. I've heard good things about their engagement and drivability.

Exactly the clutch I was going to recommend!

I have ran the 2600 with the sprung 6 puck and that seemed to work great for me. I now have the 2900 with the sprung 6 puck.

I'm pretty sure Mara runs a 6-puck sprung ACT in her 132+mph 1G AWD.

That car put down 560HP @ MAP, 480HP @ DB.

Re: Clutch Fade - Solution?

Well again, its just that my organic disk couldn't handle the heat. I either a) just need a new ceramic disk or b) upgrade to a twin disk.

Re: Clutch Fade - Solution?

I vote twin, I will never stop saying that either. After driving petes car countless times and then driving my car, its just hands down a better clutch, I assume its the same for a dsm.

Re: Clutch Fade - Solution?

If you just need to upgrade the disk, i would say just do that.

(side note, how about that damn dyno sheet/logs)

Although if you plan on turning it up and you are balla, I have heard a lot of good things regarding driving with TDs

Re: Clutch Fade - Solution?

If the clutch engages too high or there isn't free play at the top of the pedal then the PP might not be able to give 100% and it might just need some pedal adjustment. If it engages midway or close to he floor, then thats probably not the problem. You could be cheap and just throw in an ACT sprung 6-puck disc and see how that goes. If you want to do a whole new clutch and resurface the flywheel, then I would look into whatever Halon has in his car.

There is no engagement issue. I ordered a 6 puck ceramic disk, and I'll probably have the flywheel machined (with the .610" step height, I'll even bring my depth mic!)

It's a heat/fade problem. I think the organic disk couldn't handle the hard launch/run and 5 mins later again same stress.
