But if there was like one site that was a known really good LED place, that'd be nice. Like the FP of LED's or something. That Diode Dynamics place you named, are they a known good LED place or just another random site that sells random LED's?
The brand I purchased is pretty well-regarded, both on the forums and Amazon reviews. I actually heard from one guy that tried both the kind I bought and the Philips, and found the Philips to run hotter. Those ones Goodhart linked to sound pretty legit too with the proper heat management properties, and seemed to be priced accordingly.

They use known quality brands like Philips. They also have different options for light output and temperature and explain the different quality levels.

I'm surprised you guys are seeing temp issues from LED's, they're not supposed to put out any heat. My garage lights are cool to the touch and they are hella bright.

The LED bulbs I have inside my house get very hot, the heatsink near the base does at last.

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

What I've learned (basically just from reading on that diode dynamics site) is that when buying a higher quality LED you are basically paying for a bulb with better heat dissipation qualities than a cheaper one. That and higher sometimes light output.

That's at least partially due to having to convert 120v AC to probably <5V DC in the footprint of the socket.

When I was digging through this stuff before I made that lightbar for the Raptor I learned that there is only a handful of companies that actually make the chips themselves.

Even then, on a given run of chips from a brand name like CREE, they are split into luminosity "bins" based on color temperature and lumen output.

A lot of the LED bulbs(for cars) have some kind of load resistor in their base to drop the voltage, which along with the size of the LED die itself gives you a more concentrated heat source than a tungsten filament which then makes the glass bulb itself hot.

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

Hotchkis swaybar set unboxing day:

Note the Coke can for size reference:

Welded stays:

3-way adjustable in the rear:

Initial impressions are positive, the bars appear to be very quality with a nice black powdercoat. They remind me quite a bit of the Eibachs I had for my Evo X to replace the Whitelines. The welded stays are a nice touch, and I appreciate the fact their bushings retain the stock mounts/hardware. The instructions are basic, but at least include pictures. My guess is Energy is their bushing and bushing grease supplier (this is a good thing). These are some of the hardest swaybar bushings I've seen, my only concern is that I hope they don't squeak. One final comment, I find it odd their instructions list the stock Z51 bars being stiffer than the stock Z06 bars, this goes against all the other info out on the market since it is known that the Z51 w/magnetic ride control uses the same swaybars as both the Z06 and Z06 w/Z07 package. I suspect they mixed up the data and under what they have listed as the Z06 are actually referring to the base Stingray front bar and base Z51 rear bar (non-mag ride). This is just a hunch though, I have nothing to confirm or back that up!

I'll get them installed in the coming weeks (probably early February) and will report back with installation and initial driving impressions!

Just yank on the bars with your hands while they're both off the car and see the difference. Science.

Actually, you could do this....rig up a contraption for sway bar testing and put a torque wrench on the end of it and test how much torque it takes to deflect a certain distance. Yee haw

Clear markers installed! Near OEM in quality and fitment.

Front badge in Carbon Flash on to complete the removal of chrome badging!

Next up will be the Z06 grille sometime over the next few weeks.

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

Rear swaybar on...

...and then came back off the next day. Fitment was perfect, but it squeaked, creaked, and groaned like a rusty old pickup. I used plenty of Energy bushing grease, but I think the bushings were just too hard. It was nearly a hard plastic, I've never seen such a stiff polyurethane bushing before. Oh well, easy on, easy off, about an hour each time. I'm doing my best to mod without regret and compromise on street livability so it had to go.

Anyone else report issues like that with the hotchkis?

I would have left those bars on until you contact the company and have them send you some other bushings or see what they say. Mine never had any issues so could have been just a fluke.

I'm the first on the forums to install a set as far as I'm aware.

It was bad enough to make it not worth any additional hassle. Driving to dinner and back was annoying. Hotchkis is claiming the end-links weren't tight which is BS; I double-checked all connections before uninstalling and it's not like this is my first swaybar rodeo. My theory is the bushings were 1. too hard for the street and 2. too big for the stock saddles. Hotchkis does include spacers to move the stock saddles out a bit, but they probably need to be thicker or doubled-up, which may or may not help. I'm fine with considering this a failed experiment, the Z51 w/mag ride already has the largest bars available on the C7 so I'll just leave well enough alone and stick with them. I guess there's a reason these bars were half the price of the competition (which have no reported issues on street cars).

Following up on some discussion from a month ago, a local did some back-to-back testing with the ARH mid-length catted headers at the same shop/dyno I used for my ported/coated exhaust manifold testing.

My results were +11whp/+8wtq

His results were +11whp/+14wtq

Conclusion:
I'll be sticking with my ported/coated manifolds and stock primary cats, especially considering they're 1/4th the cost and OEM in appearance for warranty reasons! Both setups will pass OBDII emissions inspection, and both are safe with the stock tune.

They've improved a lot, I think the C5's we're seeing 50whp from long tubes. How far the factory has come.

You still have some shops claiming these crazy numbers too. For example, ARH claims +21/+29 for these mid-lengths w/o tuning; basically, you can cut those claims in half to arrive at something realistic. Very few header brands seem to actually do real R&D, they just quick slap some pipes together, make it fit, and call it the best. TSP and LG seem to be the exception to that though by testing out multiple designs, diameters, etc. MAP is still the only company that I've seen any C7 flowbench data from (which they performed during our ported manifold testing).

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

Z06 grilled installed with the help of my buddy Turk while he was in town to get his car tinted and for us to install his ported IM/TB setup! I also got my windshield tinted with Llumar Air 90 which is practically clear, but still blocks UV and heat. I left the car in the sun for about 3 hours yesterday afternoon and the interior was barely above ambient temp so I was happy/impressed.

It's tough taking pictures of a black grille...

The inlets in the lower corners feed the brake cooling ducts.

That's badass a practically clear tint would do that.
