Alpha 12? Dont get your hopes up haha!

Well heres my official project thread for the Nissan (weird) I'd rather call it a Mitsubishi but it is what it is lol.

As many of you know I've wanted one for sooo long and have been looking for quite sometime but just couldn't bring myself to spending 60-100k++++ on a GTR. This one fit everything I wanted, price, color, mods (NONE). It was also on a whim when it happened, I've sent some pretty ridiculous offers over the past 6 months to owners but obviously none have obliged. This was by far my most ridiculous offer yet. Assuming I wouldnt hear from owner for a day or so I went on with playing Madden and having a beer or 6. Well I got my ass kicked on Madden and threw my controller lol, grabbed my phone and had email from the seller saying he would accept my offer (I'll keep that part private) my jaw just freakin dropped and assumed he would bail on the deal within a day or two. In fear of losing the deal I got my financing in order ASAP and kept an open dialogue with the seller so he knew how serious I was. I wanted to get out there right away, but of course work got super busy the next few days. I was able to get free Sunday and Monday from any and all work so 4-5 days later we were off on another road trip lol.

My buddy Bryce and I drove out to Michigan with my truck and trailer. Hoping that once I was there the car would even fit on it with its big ass haha. The car wasnt exactly what I expected when I got there, at least not right away. The paint looked rough and the headlights were all fogged up on the inside :/. Definitely a few moments where I thought I should just get back in the truck and go home, but I try and see potential in things and not give up so easily.

I'm already sweating bullets here, so lets take it for a test drive. In my eyes if this car doesnt drive like a dream and give me an erection, I'm going home and stopping at every Strip Club on the way. The seller was interesting, he was Russian and a quick talker, said all the right things but that doesnt always make a guy feel confident. He let me drive right away and told me to test it out, so I did. I started downshifting it as hard as I could without making him think I'd break it haha. 20-120-0 about 4 times in 5 mins. Car never made a noise that worried me. The brakes are simply amazing, I always thought Evo brakes were sweet, but damn. Probably went on a 15 mile test drive, it drove so smooth/perfect down the road.

After the test drive I was sold, there was nothing more to look at it or to ask. When we came back to his place I pulled up right behind my trailer haha. I ended up getting him down another $500 for the headlights sucking balls. The rest is pretty much history! My initial plans are to get a mid pipe on it so she can talk, drop in filters and probably have Ronnie tune it. The car also cleaned up very very well. Way more than I ever thought was possible.

Thanks for reading!!

Pics? No prob

The bluffs are gorgeous, wish I had more time to get down in this area more often

Windy City? We survived

My truck doesnt get enough credit, averaged 20mpg there and 17mpg on way back. This was probably for the better part of 100 miles

Polished Tips

Still crazy to think this car is in my garage

Awesome! Amazing what a little TLC can do for a car! You should have driven it though, that's 9/10th of the fun! My buddy and I flew up to Ohio and drove his 2013 GTR back to Texas and it was a really fun weekend.

Which Y-pipe did you get? Be sure to get the Accessport with the TCM flashing support; it's spendy, but worth it.

Nice purchase, congrats. Getting one at a good price has gotta feel good.

This is the car that is leading the list to replace the nsx. I just need to drive one to know for sure.

Re: Alpha 12? Dont get your hopes up haha!

Thanks for all the kind words guys! I just ordered the Cobb race mid pipe (no cats), got it for 480 shipped so it wasnt too bad. And as Kracka said the Cobb Accessport is next, just looking for the right deal. Theres a few V3's for $900.

I'm sure I'll end up tracking it some, its just nice for once to get in a car and press start and go. Nothing else but giving thumbs up to all the crazies on the highways haha. It does have a rich code right now where its sending way too much fuel to each bank. Ron said its odd, so hopefully I can have him look at it soon and get it squared away. I'd like to get close to 450/450 on his dyno and I'd be happy for a few months haha.

The scariest part about these is obviously the trans but looking at Jacks they have their 600whp/tq package for like 2,000 so after seeing that it doesnt scare me half to death like a 15,000 new oem one. So for now, get a few items squared away and listen to that exhaust rumble!!

Oh and sell that white IX RS in the pics

Re: Alpha 12? Dont get your hopes up haha!

My buddy beat the hell out of his transmission with Cobb's TCM flashing for 30k miles without issue, and he was at 552/579 on 93, 608/662 and E85, and never hesitated to test out launch control That was his blue 2013 we drove up for the MitsuStyle Cruise last year. He's since traded that one in and swapped all his mods over to a white 2015. For transmission maintenance he did nothing but frequent fluid changes...keeping the fluid fresh in those things really is they key to longevity; I think he may have added an aftermarket filter as well. We'll be caravaning up for the Spring Cruise in April so you'll have to be sure and connect with him.

Here are his charts:

These engines are very potent and respond insanely well to modifications.

Re: Alpha 12? Dont get your hopes up haha!

Grats on the GTR purchase. I know you will enjoy it.. I loved mine and as Kraka said we flew to Ohio and drove it back to Dallas in Jan 2013 and of course drove it up to the 2013 Fall Cruise.

I have now got a 2015 and its even better.

You will love the car but please be very careful about who tunes your car. I would consult with Tim Bailey at Cobb and have him help pick you a tuner he trusts. As Kraka said make sure you get the TCU module in your Cobb AP. If you are curious how many times Launch Control has been used any local Nissan dealership that is GTR certified can plug in and tell you.

Dont do LC until you get the NEW LC control software, either for free from Nissan or with an updated AP from Cobb. Its very possible that its already been done with as old as it is from just regular servicing at a Nissan dealership.

The main reason you want the TCU module is so that the clutch packs can be repacked and adjusted in the transmission and the AP TCU model can do that. I did that regularly.

Just my two cents but I would not use Jacks... yes they are cheap but their parts are not near the quality of what Shep uses and Shep in your backyard. Dodson clutches and PPG. There is a reason all the best GTR's use these parts.

Here is some info for you to read as well:

http://www.gtrlife.com/forums/topic/...-on-stock-gtr/

Congrats again on the car and I hope to see you this Spring at the next cruise. I'll be driving up with Kraka again this year.

Re: Alpha 12? Dont get your hopes up haha!

Thanks for the advice sir! And Kracka

Ron at RS will certainly be doing the tuning, I trust him more than anyone. AJ's making great power for E85 and stock turbos so thats something I'll copy to an extent. I honestly dont need 800/800 or anything along those lines. Stock ish is great to me
