Transmission fluid

97 Eclipse GST-
manual-
Stock-

hey everyone, i just pulled my motor and re-sealed it. fixed all the little issues and replaced the clutch. i figured that i would change the tranny fluid while im at it. i could find the recommended fluid if i wanted to, but im interested to see if anyone out there has any secret fluids that they have used or know of. sometimes when shifting she wont always go into gear the easiest.. usually at higher RPM's :-). im looking for something that will assist a little with a smoother shift and maybe better lubricant for the gears.

Re: Transmission fluid

2 x Redline MT90 + 1 x Redline MTL (preferred for DSM/8/9)

Or, if you're lazy, 3 x Redline MT85

Neo RHD is my favorite, with the redline cocktail a fairly distant 2nd.

Re: Transmission fluid

Might want to rethink Shockproof in your transmission.

Hmmm that's a good read. I might have to rethink the shockproof in my trans. Good thing I already have 2 qts of red line mt-90 and a qt of red line mtl here at my work

Re: Transmission fluid

My trans is a shep stage4 so just for the heck of it I called sheptrans. They said for a daily driver type car they would recommend redline mt-90 but with the horsepower I'm making they recommended running straight redline lightweight shockproof. Or they said 2qts shockproof and a qt of mt-90.

Now I'm a little conflicted on what I should do lol

You are probably correct. And since I don't really know how much abuse the trans has taken they said I should probably have it gone through sometime soon. They said the 3-4 gearset tends to weaken. I will probably try and send it in to them as soon as I can. That probably won't be until next winter though so hopefully it holds up

Lol this is a plus! But they even said a lot of dyno time or a lot 3rd-4th gear pulls could do it too. Plus did Swifty get the trans built or did he buy it used? I'll have to find that out

Who knows, he probably won't tell you the truth anyways. The engine situation in that car seemed shady as shit.

^I'd run that setup in most stock/modified DSM transmissions. DB usually has the stuff in stock too!

Back in the day when I made some ok power TRE told me to run straight mt90 but before that I always ran the redline cocktail mix. I also always though the shock proof was a no no unless you had your trans apart all the time for inspection.

I do, actually.

It's John LaCroix's old trans. IIRC, that was the trans that was in John's Galant the last time LSE was off Sunfish Lake Blvd.

Swift did race a few people on the street with it and John's been sideways with it. Not to discourage ya or anything, but its seen a pretty decent amount of boost.

Re: Transmission fluid

If you can afford it AMSOIL 75W 90 (GL-4) MTG. In 2010 People swore up and down I had a built trans. At that time i was tuned by Devin now of Boostin Performance. He thought my trans was a Shep stage 4 lol.I had no issues ever getting in any gear! It was a stock 90 trans with bronze syncors! AMSOIL is the business!!
