Re: Project Lex
So starting to get the misc stuff buttoned up.
I got the rear seats back installed.
Got my new CanBus gauge connected and functioning, I think its going to be perfect for me! Was trying to figure out a nice clean spot to mount it. Another SC guy made a drawing of a gauge holder that would go under a single din stereo. I really like it, so despite really liking my dual din receiver, I decided to ditch it and bought a new single din stereo. So I installed that. And none other than Mr. Sean DoughtCom will be 3D printing the new gauge mount for me.
I also ordered 2 AEM 12 position switches. They will be wired into Infinity and used for adjusting boost, and traction control, from inside the car. Those are included in that 3D gauge cluster and will be mounted on either side of the CanBus gauge.
Decided to try out my Basslink again since its so much simpler than my separate sub\amp setup. I'm not sure if this head unit is better or what, but the Basslink sounds phenomenal now. So Ill be keeping that installed now. Its a Lexus, so gotta have dem beats! Also, it might sound corney, but I had my gauge cluster and HVAC recently redone by Tanin, and chose a hyper white / red accent color scheme that i really like. This receiver has two lighting zones that you can customized. So i got the screens white matched pretty close to the others. And did red accents\buttons. So it matches the rest of the lighting very well, and I'm probably more excited about it then I should be lol. Even the CanBus white matches pretty closely too, ErMaGerd!!!
Got a lot of the dust off the car, cleaned the engine bay and got all the little accessory pieces installed in the engine again.
So car is really starting to come together. I'm still working on getting more logs for Vlad when the roads aren't terrible and full of salt. And I have a small tick list of things I still need to get done as well. But the way it's looking right now is the car will be ready for spring. Much Excite!

Re: Project Lex
Pimp that basslink sounds good even from way back there.
Glad to see you getting it together, you were sounding a bit fed up a few months/weeks ago.
Nice work man, badass street car you got there.

Re: Project Lex
I like the matching lights a lot. I kinda don't like when there are a bunch of different color lights/gauges etc in modded cars(my Dsm included).
Basslink is pimp. I've had a couple and are my first choice anytime a car needs some bass to fill out a weak stereo.

Re: Project Lex
Looking good B-man. Funny, I did the same thing switching from double to single din, I think I even have the same deck as you (Kenwood BT), now I need or order a gauge mount under that as well so I can dump the a-pillar mounts and get it looking a bit more stock.

Re: Project Lex
Peter,
Interior is undecided. But my old plan was to convert it to black/brown (kinda like the black/brown you'd see in a BMW). I think that's going to be a slow gradual process. Like I already have the black front seats now, I have black floor mats, black e-brake boot. I have two new door panels since mine are shot. They are grey. So maybe I'll get around to dying those this summer and swapped in. Slowly but surely. If you have any ideas of what you think would look good, lemme know cuz I suck at that kind of stuff lol, i lack artistic vision!
Steve,
Yeah it's a Kenwood Bluetooth / HD Radio deck. It's the KMM-BT515HD. It's their multi-media series, so it doesn't have a CD player at all. Which I thought about at first, but then I started to think about the last time I actually played a CD, and I can't remember lol, so decided it's not important.

Yep, that's the exact same one I have as well. I had the same reasoning about not playing CD's anymore, and I own hundreds of them. I might be old but I've completely gone to Spotify now, bluetooth in every car including the boat. I'm a little jelly about my wife's 15gig HDD in her MDX though, that's pretty cool.

Re: Project Lex
Well we are officially done with the pump gas tuning. I have a little over 1/4 tank of premium I need to burn off so I can start filling it up with Ethanol. I figure with the weather and roads being halfway decent, and the car running so well, why not take it to work today to burn off some of that gas

Nice! Hows she feel? I suppose no traction at all in these temps haha. Makes tuning hard unless you are flyin.

Re: Project Lex
It's not that bad, but I'm on a 10psi pump gas tune right now. I'm sure it'll get interesting as we start turning it up, lol.
Car feels good in general though. Drives/Idles/Starts great. It doesn't feel that fast yet, but again probably because of the low boost / pump gas tune. I'm sure it'll start feeling like a handful very soon!

Re: Project Lex
I like that a lot. Guessing those will not work with my series 1 AEM's though. That's a bummer.

Re: Project Lex
CAN is just a generic term for a communication bus. I'm sure it'll work with anything that can talk over a CAN connection. But I don't really know that much about them. I bought mine along with my Infinity as the guy selling it to me already knows they work together, so I just knew it worked for my setup.

Re: Project Lex
Well to answer your question briefly, I absolutely love it. I'd buy it 10 times over if I had to. It's an unmeasurable improvement over my old MS setup.
To answer it in longer form, I was absolutely fed up with my MS setup. I had constant issue, nobody to really help me, shops flat out refuse to tune it because it was MS. I decided it was time to move on. I didn't decide on Infinity right away. What I decided was I wanted to run a modern Standalone. Lots of options (ProEFI, Infinity, etc). And I wanted to buy it and have it tuned by someone who was both extremely fluent with the ECU, and extremely fluent with applying it to this platform. I didn't just want an ECU in my car that somebody could tune and get it running. I wanted someone who could tune it to it's maximum potential.
That pretty much ruled out anyone locally that I could think of as I didn't know anyone locally at the time that was fluent in both a modern standalone, and applying it to my car. I first got ahold of Sound Performance about having them tune it on ProEFI. They responded to my first initial/brief email quickly. My follow up one though where I started talking details, they went dead silent. After a few weeks I decided to move on. I found this fellow Vlad who tunes Infinities for National Speed all day everyday. He's an infinity guru. And he owns a Supra, SC300, and GS300, so he knows how to apply it to this platform. Got ahold of him and boom, replies immediately, no problem answering my questions, said he can remote tune it, and confidently told me (without coming off as a jerk) that his out of box Infinity tune for 2JZ's is better than most peoples finished dyno tunes, he's just done that many and has his baseline tune that dialed in. Done, so I bought it from him and I can't be happier.
So what I'm getting at is I love that the car is running amazing! I can't say that's all because of Infinity. It'a combination of it being a great ECU, and in the hands of a guy that knows everything about how to use and maximize the ECU, and how to do it on this platform. It's not just one or two of them, all three of those are what makes it great. So yes I love Infinity, but only because it's in the right hands.
It's true, don't just pick whatever ECU, talk to whomever is going to be your tuner and go with what they recommend. If anyone wants Infinity, there's 3 of us know running Inifinty remote tuned by Vlad in the last year. Everyone is beyond satisfied. If you want to go Infinity, I can get you his contact info, but I can't recommend him enough. He knows his shit, and really makes the entire process so much less stressful!

Re: Project Lex
That reminds me that I need to get out and start working on my pile. I've been so busy working on other car projects that I've neglected mine, and after it's giving me some grief taking it to that show last weekend, I'm reminded of all the little projects that need to be done.
Looking good B-man, love the black wrinkle paint under the hood.
