90 Laser

So I pulled my car into the garage the other day to clean it out and just kind of clean it up a bit.. the car got warm and I went to turn the defrost on and I can hear the motor blowing but no air is coming out, any ideas where I can start for this? It did have some mice in the rear hatch, so possibly they got into the dash ect. ect. but wondering how i clean it out exactly. Thanks again!!

Re: 90 Laser

This is in the wrong section, this is a basic tech question. But anyways, does it blow through the vents in any other position? If it does, the ducting on top of the blower cabinet might be missing, or the flapper door isn't working. Basically, there's a large plastic box with the blower fan in it and a flapper door directs air to the low, dash or defrost vents, they are cable activated. If you take off your glove compartment, you'll see 90% of it, look to see that the black-sheathed cables are attached to the flapper door rods, ther are on the outside front of the box, you'lll see them right away. Make sure they move when you operate the heater controls. Report back what you find. Good luck.

If you had mice in there you probably have a nice mess built up in the blower motor cage. I had the same problem when I got my 92. It was completely full of mouse nest. Fan would run but no air would move.

well there are two cables that are connected.. however I am having troubles getting the box off.. I took the two snap pin deals and a screw out, but for some reason I can't get the box to drop.. any ideas?... I am trying to take the box off that goes into the firewall.. I hope I'm in the right one.. lol

Re: 90 Laser

There's a lot more to it than that. If you're taking the box off, which I wouldn't do til I'd exhausted all other options, you need to remove 4-5 nuts that hold the box to the firewall, remove the two coolant lines that go from the engine bay to the heater core, disconnect the wiring harness and remove the small plastic push pins that hold the three pieces of the box together. I'd start by pulling the blower motor first, which comes out with three screws if I remember right.

Re: 90 Laser

the blower motor is located behind the glove box right? I currently have the glove box out but I guess i'm just not familiar enough with these cars to know where exactly it is. sorry

Re: 90 Laser

so I got the blower motor fixed last night, and now I am getting a really bad shake from the front end when driving.. i took the tires off and I am going to take them into a tire shop and have them balanced.. what else could be causing this shaking?
