Do you mean the screen or the projector itself? I think the unit itself is a lot smaller than I thought it'd be, compared to say the ones we have at work.

Re: House Projects

Screen is painted. Used 2 coats of SW Primer, then just did 1 coat of the Pro Classic Enamel. Looks great, albeit not as great as the link I posted made it out to be. Probably more my fault, it's not a silky smooth finish like how it looks on trim. Looks kind of like typical wall texture. But whatever it was $20 total or something and looks awesome to me!

Re: House Projects

99% Done! Only thing left is to mount the frame for around the screen, put the cold air return face back on, put the sealer on trim and bar top (hence the table clothes on the bar top), and then figure out these couches. They are power reclining but acting kind of funny. What we also found out is the longer wedge piece is Bluetooth capable, the center cushion folds down and has all sorts of functions. It also has a "thumper" speaker under it that will thump with the bass of a movie. So gotta get that all figured out.

Watched our first movie tonight, just a DVD (not Blu-Ray) and it looked and sounded so f-ing awesome. We used the receivers built in auto-tune feature, but I still think I'm going to pay for a professional calibration for both the sound and projector (under $200 so why not after what we already dropped on the whole setup).

More pics, sorry it was actually pretty dark in there so the pics didn't turn out that great. Again all I can say is so f-ing happy with how it all turned out!!!!!!!!

Re: House Projects

Watched our first Blu-Ray on it last night, we had Avatar sitting around so popped it in. Love it, so crazy that it can be so clear with that large of a screen, from a projector, projecting on a painted wall. Still super satisfied with everything.

Re: House Projects

I'm 100% satisfied with my painted screen, the picture is phenominal! Avatar and Transformers on Blu-ray were ridiculous. 106" of crystal clear picture, you'd never know it was merely rolled on paint on the wall.

Re: House Projects

So this is happening. Made the down payment and plans got approved by the community association today.

We'll go from a 10x10 basic deck off the main floor with no lower-level landscaping to a 12x14 deck off the main floor, partially maintenance-free railings, stairs down to the lower level, 12x12 paver patio under the deck, another 16x14 paver patio next to that, "floating" built-in bench made of maintenance-free decking, elevated planter made of the same maintenance-free decking, and associated landscaping. We might add some deck lighting and landscape lighting into the mix too, but we're not sure. We'll have more space than furniture, so we'll also get an outdoor table and chairs, more outdoor lounge seating, and I'm campaigning for a propane fire pit. I'll have to take some before and after pics.

Re: House Projects

Man I forgot about this thread! I have a few garage-related updates...I'll start with my own in-the-city/ghetto garage mods update. After installing the heater I got to thinking, what if I could fit 3 cars in there? A few people said hell no, some said hell yes, I said game on.

Got a little crazy and started ripping out the epic 16x4' workbench that my dad and I built when I first moved in almost 10 years ago. This workbench is HUGE and it has been amazing as I have hosted newb mod days, done motor swaps, clutch jobs, countless short shifter and lowering-spring installs, brake jobs etc etc etc over the years. But these days, it turned into storage space. I opted instead to install a bunch of extra shelving all around the garage and give this thing the axe:

Turbo helped (as there was mice running around last fall):

Under the main bench base/riser, can you tell this is a dsm'ers garage?

Kablamo:

Ready to make new shelving now:

Spazzy looking on in disbelief. He's sure I've lost my mind.

Shelving up:

Now time to rip apart the rest of the workbench

I cut about 15" off the back the long way, little more mangeable size:

Starting to rearrange:

I made brackets for all kinds of stuff. I made brackets for brackets. Anything I could do to get stuff off of the ground: jackstands, engine hoist parts, engine stand, funnels, etc:

Installed S-AFC...you know for better AFRs....

And finally...SO MUCH ROOM FOR ACTIVITIES!!!

So, the X lived elsewhere for the winter, but I just got it back and finally with a little bit of touch-ups...not perfect yet but aww yea my dreams have come to fruition:
