Re: FP RED for evo 8 & 9

David Buschur posted some interesting info a bit ago:

"I just checked some logs from Trent's car on the dyno.

The only change from these logs is the car went from our header turbo kit with a GT35r to the red on the stock ported manifold and SS 02 housing.

The GT35r reached 20 psi at 4895 rpm and 29 psi at 5395 rpm.

The Red reached 20 psi at 3656 rpm and 27 psi at 4387 rpm.

Both pulls were on 93 octane, same boost controller, same gear (4th) on the dyno."

Freaking sweet.

More dyno plots from a little more mildly-built car:
Pump gas, 30psi, AEM:

Race gas, 38psi:

Seems like I have died and gone to heaven. A turbo that has good low-end torque and makes good power up top. We still need to see this done on a little more average car, though: milder cams (on stock springs), stock ECU, and probably alky injection If we just had a car like that around here....

Re: FP RED for evo 8 & 9

That's a lot of boost for not a huge turbo, I don't think the DSM reds can handle 38psi to redline can they? But then again you're running 28psi on a "16g"...

Re: FP RED for evo 8 & 9

The dsm reds were a 60-1 compressor and a mitsu tdo6H exh wheel in the mitsu 8cm exh housing, i believe.

I wonder what this new one is packing.

Re: FP RED for evo 8 & 9

Is that the same exh wheel as the dsm green? I thought it was the same thing but they clipped it for the red.

Re: FP RED for evo 8 & 9

LOL guys, read the first couple posts! It's similar to the FP Evo green, which is based on the stock evo 9 turbo (reverse rotation twin-scroll). The Evo Red has a bigger-still turbine wheel than the green, and has what FP calls their 76HTA compressor wheel, which they developed for the standard-rotation 3076 (HTA3076). It's a light-weight, machined billet compressor wheel. While the regular 3076 is generally considered poo (sorry kevin!), the HTA3076 has proven itself to be quite nice! The red has (I believe) an exact mirror copy of this compressor wheel.

Obviously, being stock appearing, twin-scroll, and the curves above, this thing is a winner!

Looks like it could be real nice. Buy one for yourself and show us how well it performs on yours!

Re: FP RED for evo 8 & 9

Those BR numbers were done on a built car with a good setup, also most cars won't run 30 psi on pump gas. If you like tq and fast spool with decent power, this is the turbo for you. I'm going to look up some BR 3076 and 35r graphs to compare.

Hell of a tq jump between pump and race gas and only 8psi.

Gained 64ft/lbs tq and only 30hp. The car has to be pretty badass on the street.

Re: FP RED for evo 8 & 9

stikx, it's not a BR 3076, it's an HTA3076, made by forced performance.

Buschur has been doing a lot of 30psi tuning on pump gas lately, usually on built cars with AEM. From the numbers I've seen, similar numbers, usually with a tad more torque, are obtainable form more stock-ish cars with the stock ECU and alky injection. His bro's car with an IX turbo and similar mods to mine made ~370whp on their dyno, not far off from my car on alky w/ ix turbo. If that holds true, bolting this onto my car should yield ~60-70whp, enough to stretch my rod bolts and install skylights for my oil pan. :P

Re: FP RED for evo 8 & 9

Is it me or does going to race gas and adding 8psi for a gain of 30hp and 64tq not seem like much?

Re: FP RED for evo 8 & 9

True, but he's just running a ported stock intake manifold. the +64wtq makes sense, but the +30whp is a little weak. Thus the 'need' for SMIM's and/or those Indy v0, v1, v2's, etc. Also, this example, the turbo is completely unported, which has been said to add significant power gains up top on a setup like this.

Re: FP RED for evo 8 & 9

I'd like to see a flatter torque curve, but the power curve looks healthy.

Re: FP RED for evo 8 & 9

More info on the turbine wheel from FP:
"When we made the new turbine wheel, we made it with a clip angle in it already. The new turbine wheel is about 8mm larger than the one in the Green model turbo, and a better aero. Turbine pressure took a HUGE drop as a result."

MattD, the torque curve is pretty damn flat on the pump gas run above, have you seen the torque curve of a stock turbo? It falls off like a brick in the ocean after peak, but the car feels smooth and powerful none-the-less. Magic, I guess?

I guess it isn't THAT bad, it just didn't have a nice big arc like the power curve.

Re: FP RED for evo 8 & 9

I thought Buschur proved beyond a doubt that his stock IM's performed better then SMIM's. So how can that be what's holding him up?

Re: FP RED for evo 8 & 9

You're confusing the different manifolds.

These last graphs are on ported stock IM w/ 65mm ported stock TB. This is what I have on my car, and basically gives the whole power curve a 10-15whp bump up, not really geared towards improving top end power specifically, other than that.

The graphs in the original post feature the "Indy" or Wilson Manifolds uber-modified stock manifold that rivals the best SMIMs out there.

So, if he were to switch to the Indy v0, v1, or v2 manifold, he would see more power up top w/o a doubt, but induce a little bit higher boost threshold (i.e. later torque), depending on the version. Or he could go with a SMIM and see similar results.

Side note, the second car (Trent) w/ 470whp went to the track last night:

"First pass went 10.57 with crappy launch (it bogged a little) Second pass was a 10.51 @ 132 Third pass was 10.51 @ 133 Fourth pass was another 10.51 Then i looked at the log at 2 step and thought the car had a little bog, The rpm was dropping to like 3800-4000 GOOD THING THIS TURBO SPOOLS UP QUICK So i Raised the 2 step and next pass was a 10.39 @ 134 with a 1.47 60ft. Was happy but just had to back it up so the next pass was another 10.39 @ 135 with a best 60 ft. to date a 1.4500"

consistent 10.5's on a stock-appearing turbo in a full-weight car, pretty freaking redonk!

Re: FP RED for evo 8 & 9

I'm not referring to the Wilson ones, I was referring to Buschur's modded stock IM's that he proved on his dyno to outperform a SMIM maybe 6 months back, remember?
