Re: Cobra Brakes on a 1G

Thanks for the other fitment pictures Brandon. That is very odd but I'm sure the Cobra engineers know more than I do!

Re: Cobra Brakes on a 1G

Huh, seems weird they would design it like that, I would think that more surface area=better stopping power. Maybe they did that to keep from building up too much heat, or just more surface area to act as a heat sink?

Re: Cobra Brakes on a 1G

Well I'm home, so I'm back at it.

Ran to the hardware store and picked up four M12x1.75x40mm length bolts to go from the bracket to the caliper. I think this length will be good. Here's how many threads are stick out, with a lockwasher uncompressed, with 6 threads sticking out of it. Once it compresses I expect I'll get another thread out of it. I figure 7 threads should be good. But if I were to do it again, I'd probably use 45mm length.

So IMO, ideal length for the Bracket bolts is 30mm, and ideal length for caliper bolts is 45mm. I'm no mechanical engineer, just my mechanical judgement there...

Re: Cobra Brakes on a 1G

Ha, get your arse home dude!

OK well, the install is 99% done. All that's left is to clip the brake lines in the middle somewhere, probably on the stock bracket. Just want to install the tranny and axles before I decide on the permanent clamping point of the lines. One thing I will mention, was that I did have to do a little bit of sanding and/or shimming on the spacers that were included with the bracket kit, to get the calipers perfectly centered on the rotors. They were "OK" with the just putting in the spacers, but weren't perfectly centered. I just decided to be nit picky and get them as perfect as I could. Both bottom bolts have the spacers left as is. The top bolts I sanded a little, but sanded too far, then put washers on as well. The spacers were about 1/32 too long for the tops. So like I said, hardly off at all, I was just trying to be as perfect as possible.

Here's the pics.

Re: Cobra Brakes on a 1G

Well they are on, brake lines are clamped (aka ziptied haha), and bled. I pumped out all the old fluid from the fronts and put in new Dot 3 standard fluid from O'Reilly. One of these days (maybe tomorrow) I'm going to pump the old stuff out of the rears and get the new stuff in back there also before this opened bottle of fluid goes bad.

But I backed the car out of the driveway, and they stopped the car from a 2mph roll, so I know they work that much so far
