Project 2G GSX
I have lurked here for some time, but never really got around to posting. I've been out of the car game for some time now and finally feel that it is time to finish my 2G. I bought this from Matt D. some time ago, but with 70+hrs/week work and full load finishing up my bachelors/certs I just lost interest. Over the last month I have accumulated quite a few parts to get this finished. Below is the list so far.
1997 Eclipse GSX
Block:
- 2.0L MAP 6-bolt
- Eagle Rods
- Ross Pistons
- MAP Ultimate H11 Headstuds
- Fel-Pro PermaTorqueMLS Head gasket
- Gates Timing Belt
- ACL Rod Bearings
- ACL Main Bearings
Head:
- 1G MAP Stage 3 Cylinder Head
- Ferrea Valve Guides
- Ferrea valve seals
- GSC Springs, Retainers, seats
- MAP +1mm Nitride Valves
- HKS 280 Cams
Fuel:
- FIC 1680cc BlueMAX High Impedence Injectors
- Walbro 255 Fuel pump
- AEM Fuel Pressure Regulator
- Turbosmart FPR Liquid Fill Gauge
- AEM Fuel Rail
Intake/Exhaust/Turbo:
- ETS 10.5" Race Intercooler Kit
- PTE GT3561 turbo
- Magnus Race Intake Manifold
- DNP Turbo Manifold
- Apexi turbo-back
- Accufab F75 5.0L 75mm Throttle Body
- Tial 44mm Wastegate
- Tial Q Blow Off Valve
- MAP 44mm O2 Housing
- Greddy Trust Boost Controller
- MAP 3" Intake/filter
Drivetrain:
- TRE rebuilt transmission
- Competition Clutch Stage 4
- ACT Lightweight Flywheel
- Prothane Motor Mount Inserts
- Techna-Fit Clutch Line
- Prothane Motor Mount Inserts
Electronics:
- AEM AIT Sensor
- AEM 5-Bar MAP
- Eprom ECU w/DSMLink V3
- GM 3" MAF Sensor
- Prosport Peak/Hold Boost Guage
- Prosport Peak/Hold Oil Pressure Gauge
- Prosport Peak/Hold Wideband Guage
Suspension/Wheels:
- Koni 5-way adjustable shocks
- H&R race springs
- ADR 17x7 wheels
Misc:
- Mishimoto Aluminum Radiator
- Mishimoto 12” Electric Fan
- Taylor Battery Relocation kit
I guess now I am looking for advice. What else do I need or should get? I am trying to do it right the first time so I don't run into problems down the road. My goal has always been 600AWHP, but will be happy with whatever this produces.

Re: Project 2G GSX
Sounds like a badass setup. Post some pics of both your cars I've heard mixed feelings about the 330xi

Re: Project 2G GSX
The 330xi is a great daily driver for this state. I've had the car for about 30,000 miles now with no real complaints. I've done the basic maintenance and a few larger things, but nothing that would stop me from buying another one.

Re: Project 2G GSX
I'd skip the cam gears. If I remember correctly the HKS cams are designed to be installed straight up, maybe I'm wrong though.
If you can find a buyer for the EMS, I'd recommend ECMLink instead, it's a lot easier to tune and use.
Good luck with your project!

Re: Project 2G GSX
It's going to run like shit with the FIC 1650s and an AEM EMS.

Re: Project 2G GSX
Maybe the newer high-z FIC 1680's? I have them on my evoX and they are great!

Re: Project 2G GSX
I am waiting to hear back from Shane, but it sounds like 1680's will be the way to go. I am glad that he pointed that out before I ordered them. Is there anything else that I should consider/change thats on my parts to get list?

Re: Project 2G GSX
I wouldn't bother with the fuel rail unless you need it to fit whatever injectors you plan on running (I know guys that use the Ford 1600's have to use an AEM or similar rail for them to fit).
Use that money for a Fel-Pro Permatorque head gasket

Re: Project 2G GSX
I already have a fuel rail. I think I just need the following +/- some.
Parts that I need:
- Gates Timing Belt
- AEM 5-Bar MAP
- AEM Wideband
- BBK 5.0L 75mm Throttle Body
- Mitsu Head Gasket
- Fuel Pressure regulator
- FIC 1680cc Injectors
- Coil-On-Plug Setup
I am open to suggestions though.

Re: Project 2G GSX
Do you have any kind of CDI box for the COP setup? COP may be something you can go without if you need to save some money.

Re: Project 2G GSX
Ryan,
Just stick with a 1g throttle body. As somebody who has used BBK parts on things they are SUPPOSED to go on, they suck. They are cheap and they work, but there are by far better options. try http://www.throttlebodys.com/1G%20Turbo%20TBs.htm or go for the 1g non turbo throttle body.

Currently, I don't have anything for the ignition. So to answer your question, as of now I do not have CDI or COP.

Hey John, I have the Magnus race manifold with the 75mm 5.0 flange on it.

Re: Project 2G GSX
Then look for a better throttle body than BBK. Precision Racing Products or something like that has one. There are others as well. Not a fan of bbk at all, as you can tell.

Re: Project 2G GSX
The stock DSM ignition system is pretty decent. I wouldn't go to COP without adding some sort of ignition amplifier. Unless you're having an issue with weak spark, just stick with the stock ignition system and use that money elsewhere.

Re: Project 2G GSX
Yeah, the COP was last on the list I guess. I will take it off the list for now and see what happens after I finally get it all together and tuned.

Re: Project 2G GSX
I found a couple Accufab TB's that seem to be the same thing as BBK. They are about the same price as well.

Re: Project 2G GSX
I also saw the same issues with the accufab on the poopra boards. Would a Q45 work?

Re: Project 2G GSX
I believe the flange is different for the Q45. Unfortunately the manifold I got was local and had the 75mm flange on it already.
