New DD: Project DurRTay-D

Picked up a new DD last night. Missed out on a used 14 w/ 40k miles on Tuesday by 15 minutes which I was bummed about, but I think it worked out for the better. Ended up finding this one yesterday for just a little more money, but its a 2015 w/ 4800 miles. So basically brand new, just some other poor bastard took the new car initial depreciation hit. Here's a basic run down of it.

2015 Durango RT
- 5.7 Hemi V8
- 8spd Auto
- 4800 miles
- Black exterior with 20" polished\black rims
- Black leather interior w/ rear captain seats
- Tow package (7500lbs rating)
- Pretty much decked out, but a couple things I know it doesn't have are sunroof or rear DVD system
- Lifetime Power train warranty
- 5yr 75000 Bumper to Bumper warranty
- 5yr body warranty (unlimited PDR, damaged wheel replacement, things like that)

They also tried to sell me on a full front 3M clear bra ($800) and some Auto Armor interior\exterior protection package ($900) but I said I'd think about it. Any good input on those from people that might have experience with it? Calling senior Curt!

Plan is for it just be my sweet dad mobile. I do have a few mods in mind, but in no rush to do them.
- Add black running boards/bars
- Add sunroof
- Intake
- Exhaust
- Possibly a PnP Diablo tune if I can find a way to have it not screw up my warranty

Love it so far. The racetrack tails and LED front DRL's are pretty sweet. The rumble of the V8 sounds fucking boss. I was going to get the V6 previously but once I test drove an RT I was hooked. It feels quick and torquey for its size, but not really all that fast in the grand scheme of things.

On to some pics!

Re: New DD: Project DurRTay-D

Love the ride, looks badass! Nearly new too with plenty of warranty...can't beat that.

Skip the clear bra, did that once, never again...waste of money. Costs more than just getting the front end repainted and it ended up needing replacement about every other year. Wax on the exterior a few times a year and vinyl/leather conditioning wipes is all you need for the interior protection since they aren't cloth seats; and of course the occasional vacuuming and shampooing/steam cleaning on the floor carpet.

Yea, my last two cars have had clear bras, looks really bad once you start getting rock chips, and then you have to replace. Easier to just fix the bad spots or repaint.

Congrats, looks like a sweet DD!

Yeah, those add on's is where the dealer really makes their money, huge markup. You're better off getting that stuff after the fact.

I love the tail lights on those things, badass.

Add sunroof? I wouldn't do anything but factory these days, aftermarket is asking for leaks and problems.

If the Diablo for those is anything like it is for my Corvette or Cruze, they are 100% untraceable once flashed back to stock, they don't even trip the flash counter.

Re: New DD: Project DurRTay-D

For $800 what does the clear bra cover? At that price it should cover
- Whole front bumper
- First 1/3 of the hood
- Backs of mirrors
- Edges of all 4 doors
- Rear bumper where it meets the tailgate.

If it's less than that, it's too expensive.

Awesome ride. I am actually going to go look at one this weekend.

Only thing has me worried is there's been two reports of the motors locking up with under 20,000miles.

Dealership warranties it but still has me thinking about later on.

As I've personally havent seen the 2015 yet.Does it look like it will have enough room for a family of 6 and still be able to carry there stuff?

I thing it covers the entire front end (entire front bumper, part of fenders and hood). I don't think it covers anything other than the front area, not doors or rear. They would do a partial front one too for half the price.

Happens with every model of every make, that's why warranties exist. You won't find any vehicle on the market with a 0% failure rate. Stay up on the maintenance and you have nothing to worry about. The good thing about these mass produced vehicles is the manufacturer is probably well aware of the problem before you ever experience it so they'll either release a recall for it, or have a TSB available to the dealerships on how to fix it.

It's 3 rows. The 3rd row is quite usable, more usable than a 2015 Tahoe's 3rd row in my opinion. Anyone under 6ft I'd go as far as saying they'd be rather comfortable back there. Ours is essentially a 6 passenger because we got the captains seats. 7 if you did bench instead. The captains are nice because you can walk between them to get to the 3rd row, that's why we got them. Hard to fold down seats to get to the back when there's child seat(s) strapped to them.

I drove a 15 Tahoe, 15 Expedition, and 15 Durango. Tahoe again I thought the 3rd row was just about useless. Expedition had the best seating room/setup, but even the 2015 looks like it was designed in 05 or something which was kinda an issue. Durango was cheaper than them, 3rd row was still decent, felt nicer to me (not so big), and came with some pretty nice options in most of them like heated seats/steering wheel and uConnect.

Agreed, see this all the time.

I can get you the exact same thing - hood, fenders, front bumper for 675.00. This is cheaper then repainting..

Dont waste the money on the exterior stuff, pretty much glorified wax, but i do hear good things about the interior protection if it's cloth which doesn't apply. Makes removing stains much easier and with kids that could happen alot

Love it, so glad you got the V8.

Also I got 4 captains seats for the same reason with the 3rd row, I wish I had a bench seat up front though.

My car has a clear bra on it and it is awesome. Zero rock chips on the front and it is still nearly invisible. It looks like it has been on the car since new in 2011. I am not sure what brand BMW uses, but probably similar to 3M quality. I know there are cheaper versions out there like this place, but not sure on their quality.

Re: New DD: Project DurRTay-D

Needs badges removed! But I like the aggressive look, very cool.

I had a clear bra on the GC, and it definitely helped stop some rock chips. I could see after a few years it getting pretty dinged up. I would just replace it at that point, but I wouldn't pay those dealer prices!
