ACT2900 question

I'm selling my Talon hopefully in a couple weeks, but the clutch just started slipping at high boost. I have no idea why, it's never slipped before, and I've been super easy on the car since I've been trying to sell it. A few WOT pulls here and there, but not a lot of hard shifting and never launching. Not to mention the car has maybe 500 miles on it since it was last tuned, was fine on the dyno. And the buyer doesn't want to take off a couple hundred bucks and fix it himself, so I have to do something about it soon.

I know the clutch has a decent amount of miles on it, probably 15k at least, but mostly easy miles since most of that was driving between Des Moines and Minneapolis.

I guess I don't know 100% that it's slipping, but it sure seems like it. I have the older style 2900 pressure plate, it was purchased probably 6 years ago but never used until a couple years ago. What is the difference between the old and new PP designs? Can I use the clutchnet disc with this PP, or just with the newer designed ones? I can't remember if the flywheel is Fidanza or ACT, but it's never been resurfaced before, and it's the same age/miles as the clutch.

Can I reuse the PP? Will I have to resurface the flywheel or get a new one?

OR - is there something else that could cause similar symptoms and hopefully not involve changing the clutch?

Wheel spin? If you want you could just put in a new disk and resurface the flywheel. Then take some emmery cloth and scuff up the PP surface.

This should be an acceptable fix, if its the clutch that is slipping.

Re: ACT2900 question

Not spinning, the speedo wasn't climbing like the tach.
Thanks Kevin, that actually sounds pretty reasonable since I haven't been beating on the clutch at all.

I'm hoping to take off the tranny and take a look at things in the next week or two. If is is the rear main seal, and it leaked oil onto the clutch, could I just clean things off and reuse it, or is the disc trashed? (ACT Street Disc)

Re: ACT2900 question

You could quick jack the car up and pull off the inspection plate if you think it's leaking, that'll give you a quick definitive answer on that.

It would be better to replace the disc, but since you're selling it, fix the leak and burn off the oil that's on it.
