SMIC with big16g?
Could you get away with using a SMIC with a big16g without any problems? Or should you get a FMIC?

Re: SMIC with big16g?
Oh yea, you will be fine that is for sure. A FMIC wouldn't hurt though...
I just wouldn't be turning up the boost though without something that you can use to tune with like DSMlink or SAFC.

Re: SMIC with big16g?
Ran 17psi on a 14b with my smic. Worked great even on hot days. Plenty of others have done the same or more. 14 on a bigger, more efficient turbo should be fine.

Re: SMIC with big16g?
It's strange how a small size difference in the compressor wheel from the 14b to 16g can create so much more horsepower. Talk about easy Horsepower.

Re: SMIC with big16g?
That guy who made 340 FWHP at the dyno day was running a SMIC, granted it was a Nissan SMIC that was a little bit better... But it was a SMIC non-the-less!

25% more flow is nothing to sneeze at.

He was also running e85 which kept the temps down.

My 50 trim has a 3 inch inlet. The 16g is about 2 inches I believe. I would also recommend getting a fmic. Hell they can be had for under $200 if you get an ebay kit and then have some minor welding done to guarantee good fitment.

Re: SMIC with big16g?
Brian, I want a ride in your car sometime to feel what a 50 trim is suppose to feel like. My car doesn't like to spool up til like 5000 rpm because it hates me

If you want to see what a real 50 trim feels like... I can give you a ride... Brians car makes less power than mine and is heavier!

Re: SMIC with big16g?
No prob man. I'm not really drivin it much until I fix a couple things, but in a couple weeks she should be bangin nicely I've got the boost set to like 10 psi right now so she spools up fine but doesn't pull like a 50 trim should. The fun comes around 20-25psi haha
p.s. anthony doesn't know how much power my car makes because neither do it And my car may be heavier but it looks hella better haha

huh? I musta missed where it was I said that.
btw, I would strongly reccomend getting a fmic setup to start off with. As soon as you throw a 16g on there you're gunna want to really feel it shine in the upper 18s psi and in order to do that you will need more fuel and then imo, a fmic.

Re: SMIC with big16g?
Sweet, and to get more fuel i need injectors, adjustable fuel regulator, and dsm link right, or a chip set for 500cc or 600cc injectors? Can't I get away with just putting the 16g in and boosting a little bit more then 14psi? How much can I boost my 14b with a manual boost controller with a stock set up before I get into trouble then?
I pretty much need everything on this list, http://www.dsmtalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=197035
and it makes no sense to have a 16g turbo that spools slower be set at the same psi as a 14b right?

Re: SMIC with big16g?
If you were to just throw on a 16g you probably wont make more power unless you adjust your fuel setup so you can raise up the boost. One thing you need to consider is 14psi on a 14b is much different than 14psi on a gt42r haha. So yea on a 14b you can push the boost up a little more than stock, but with a 16g, 14psi is already somewhat more than stock. lmk if that doesn't makes sence, I just woke up.
You could probably get away without an afpr for now, but I would look into it in the future. You could also probably settle for an safc instead of the spendy dsmlink if you aren't planning on making mad power. I would stay away from chips for the only fact that you can't modify your own tune as far as I know.

Re: SMIC with big16g?
First off, you won't need a FPR until you are running multiple fuel pumps.
Second, unless you have some way of tuning there is no point in turning the boost up even a pound or two.
