Wow! Had a great time, never saw so many mitsu's going quick and not breaking!? BIR never warned any of us for going faster than 11.5 or over 135mph all weekend, pretty nice.
Had a great time hanging at our campsite when we weren't racing. We were the unofficial Mitsustyle crew, Halon, Tachyon, 1QUICK4, C3LICA, Curt and the rest of the 3Sers.
It was awesome that the AWD Finals came down to the two cars and group of folks I have spent the most time with over the last couple weeks getting ready for this event. Shane, Brian, Brad thanks for all the help and fun the past couple weeks! Too cool it was B-rad and me in the finals, -Brad glad you beat me with your best MPH for the day just sick 140mph. Team Ginger rocks
Eliminations had very few cars turnout, only 7 in AWD. I beat Bill at MAP on my first round, Bill's car is quick but he wasn't super consistent all day so I had no idea what to expect. Luckily I beat him as I FORGOT to shift to fourth, I bounced away at 8500rpm in third thinking I was in fourth waiting for the 1/4 to end. Bill went 11.837@124.24 with a R/T.577 and 2.113 60' to my 11.247@122.49 R/T .313 and 1.680 60'. Bill's a super cool dude, his car seems it can run a ten with some more dialing in.
Round two I was paired up with AJ in his 1g DSM, no one wanted to race him since he was running mid 10's all day at upper 130's I think he had the best AWD ET in trials a 10.5! AJ went 10.668@137.71 R/T .634 and 1.825 60' to my 11.142@125.49 R/T .149 and 1.720 60'. Luckily I was able to tree him for the win, I only beat him by .0112.
Brad and I were in the final and he was starting to get real quick with a 10.8 earlier and or low elevens. Our R/Ts were close and we were side by side most of the run. I shifted a little quicker so I could stay slightly ahead but once he got into fourth he motored right by and I decided to let off cause no way I was going to catch him. No shit I wasn't going to catch him he was going 140mph! Damn nice B-rad!
My time 11.215@122.40 R/T .171 60' 1.709 to Brad's 10.921@140.77 R/T .213 60'1.745
OK couple things I found out about my car. ACT HD pressure plate and 6 puck sprung clutch is best clutch I have ever run. Takes the abuse and gives me lightning fast shifts at over 8,000 rpms, never missed a gear on my last 8-10 passes. Clutch took all the abuse of launches and never slipped. Truthfully this is the first drag event, let alone two day event, were I never even thought about how my clutch was doing. Clutch was and still is a champ! 14k miles on it so far
6-speeds suck for the power level I am at with their short ass gearing, I either need power to go 130+ to really make use of fifth or run 4th out to 9K. Shifting to fifth never netted me better than an 11.3@~122mph. Bumped the RPM up from 8K - 8.5K and I held onto fourth through the traps on the next run. This netted me an 11.148@125.42mph however it still wasn't enough RPM as I was bouncing off the 8500 limiter before end of track. Didn't have the stones to bump it up higher as FP doesn't recommend over 8K on stock springs and retainers. Ran a lot of 11.1 125-126mph runs. Car had an 11.0 for sure in it.
Thanks everyone for the awesome weekend, MAP for putting on the event and making a fun weekend. Gotta thank DB Performance for help with recommending parts for my setup and track support. This evo has 53K on the clock, 47K of which has a DB tune on E85 at ~30psi levels at all times, still rocking the original head gasket and head bolts and I really feel this success is a direct result of Shane's tuning with E85.
Great time, can't wait to hear about the planning for the event next year.
