Quick background: I bought an IX MR GG brand new in June of 2006 for $32,500 and it has ran on E85 for 4 years straight, 4500+gallons worth of the good stuff. 11.1@126.5mph is my best time @432hp/395tq DynoDynamics at 31psi.
First Post will be the "Stock Block 2.0 Era."
Second post will be about "2.3 Block Era"
April 2007 Sometime in April I converted to E85 with Shane at DB Performance eventually making anywhere from 340-360hp and about the same in TQ depending on the current condition of the car and available fuel.
June 2009 Oh noes! I lose to B-Rad in the finals at the first Annual Proving Grounds event put on by MAP. Car ran many 11.1 and 11.2 times that day all around 127mph riding out fourth gear at 8500 rev limiter through the traps (6 speed gearing)
August 2010 I was approached by FiD and they offered me a chance to test out one of their new stock turbo manifolds and I was very thankful for the opportunity. Here is the writeup on the events:
Hot one today. First pull today was 437hp. Car is basically the same as the 443hp run from back in June. Same graph curve, boost, AFR so that was nice to see, just a little less power and though the dyno compensates for weather it was still hot and muggy in the dyno room..
Swapped the MAP ported exhaust manifold out for a FiD tubular manifold on the dyno after a few baseline pulls and it picked up an honest 15+hp and more power pretty much everywhere through out the power band with no real noticeable increase in lag (very slight increase).
Graph shows a couple of the MAP ported stock manifold graphed and a couple of the FiD manny. Single best bolt on I have tried outside of turbo and full exhaust.

August 2010 MOD LIST:
Stock engine, never been opened, never had the head off.
ACT HDG6
3" TBE w/ebay O2 housing
BR Race Core FMIC
LICP Niesi
1250 Bluemax injectors
255 Walbro
Spoolinup COP
FP4R cams
FP Beehive Springs
FP 3" intake Perrin Filter
FP Red w/80mm comp cover
DB Performance MBC
FiD Tubular Ex Manifold
E85 and Shane's tuning abilities
I want to mention something about Shane Ziegler and Dan Wolfson at DB Performance. These guys have been some of the most helpful, knowledgeable and humble guys I have ever had the opportunity to work with in my 15 years of playing around with cars. Anyone can sell you a part, anyone can perform work on a car and collect your money, anyone can have a fast car that makes or does whatever but what matters to me is the enjoyment I get out of that journey to that end goal and then the next. Shane and Danny have made my performance cars more fun than I could ever have imagined.

2.3 Block - Here I come
August 2010 I spun rod bearing number 1. Shit. I was playing king of the streets and was having entirely to good of a time to care about the 13:1 AFRs. I purchased a parts evo earlier that year from Scheides and had most of the drivetrain still as I planned on building a motor eventually.
I started my 2.3 Build.
Parts ordered:
ACL Race Bearings
Mitsu balance shaft elim kit
Manley 2.3 forged crank
Eagle Rods
Manley Stoker Pistons
Machine work done by D&D Machining out of Bloomington
DB Performance helped with parts and some small issues as I was building my first motor
RS Motors helped with some build advice
MAP supplied some parts and helped fund my build by purchasing some evo blocks from me
Start up:
Here is what fuels Trevor when he helps me in the garage!
Trevor said "Once Jim got the suspension back together we took it for a ride. I did talk a little smack about kracka in this video haha. I was drunk I couldn't help it...Forgive me as I was pretty drunk!!"
Here are a couple more pics as well:
At this time I sent in my FP Red turbo to be converted to an FP Black
I also sold my 6 speed and brought Scheides' old 5 speed in to DB Performance for their Tranny rebuild service. Performed the 6 speed to 5 speed swap without much issue. I felt like I had been dodging a bullet running higher power through the 6 speed.

Re: TalonFiero - E85 powered Lancer Evolution IX MR
November 2010 Dyno session does not go well, we determine my head must be bad. Car had uncontrollable knock issues and ran poorly under boost. I knew it had a couple hairline cracks but I wanted to try it out anyway. Also it seemed I had some bent valves after performing a leakdown test. Smoked pretty badly on WOT pulls on the dyno. Car drove fine enough but performance was severely lacking. Car is also running on speed density.
Here are the cracks on some of he combustion chambers once I yanked the head.
Found another MIVEC head in Nov and had DB Performance perform the head work. Bit of porting and 1mm oversized supertech valves put it.
March 2011 After fixing the head I put 2400 miles on the new motor. This past Thursday I visited DB Performance for another dyno session.
Boost drops a bit and I will try to fix that with a stronger WG and by running a BCS inline with the MBC. Car does not knock at all, the head was definitely most of the problem. Also the car does not smoke too bad at all after a WOT pull like it did back in November. The car should make some more power with the 2.3 and the Black, I think the FP4R cams are holding me back a bit on the top end and the boost drop could be a result of those cams. Maybe some GSC2s cams will help.
Current Mod List:
ACT HDG6
3" TBE w/ebay O2 housing
BR Race Core FMIC
LICP Niesi
1680 FIC High-Z injectors
Spoolinup High Impedance resistor bypass
255 Walbro modded
Kenne Bell Boost-a-pump
Spoolinup COP
FP4R cams
FP Beehive Springs
Supertech 1mm oversized valves
Ported Head by Gosh to DB Performance spec
K&N 4" Filter and CAI
FP Black Turbo
Grimspeed MBC
FiD Tubular Ex Manifold
E85 and Shane's tuning abilities
Hope to get this pig up past 530HP, that should put me over 600HP dyno jet which is a silly goal of mine.

Re: TalonFiero - E85 powered Lancer Evolution IX MR
Epic story, I love it. Everything an evo should be. Simple and reliable at first, then slowly improved upon over time. Fighting through issues and getting it back on the road bigger and better than ever!

1680 FIC high-z impedance injectors right now.
I also want to point out that I have had the same Walbro 255 in my car since the beginning. 4 years/4500gallons of straight E85, high pressure mod performed to the pump, and now it's connected to a KB BAP with more voltage and it's performing like a champ!

Re: TalonFiero - E85 powered Lancer Evolution IX MR
I got a ride today. 2nd gear 3rd gear the car is just an animal! Smooth power delivery but the volume of torque is just impressive all the way to redline. The new WGA definitely seems to hold boost better up top but a BCS should definitely help put it over the top. With the trans in this car out of my 8 this thing is gonna run 10's all day long with Jim at the wheel!
