Are 2001 Kawisaki ZX6s fast?

Someone at work has one and says it is really fast. I want to race him in my gst if I can get it running right. Do you think I will have a chance with my car tuned. I thought I would be able to beat him but he seems to think he could beat me just using 2nd and 4th. I think it is one of the smaller 600's. It is the same as the one MATCHBX has but isn't the ZX6R. My setup is:

6 bolt motor with 1g head, intake manifold and TB, BS elim and arp's
60 trim with 82 ar exhaust side
T3 manifold
QPR 2.5" 02 housing
3" Thermal turboback
Greddy Big FMIC
1g BOV
3" chrome intake
780cc injectors
Walbro 255 Low pressure
Dsm Link
Guages and other little stuff.

The car seems quick right now on 25 psi pump. The turbo is a little lagy, but If I am in the right gear, isn't hard to spool. Do you think I would have a chance on pump gas, or do you think I will need 30 psi and race gas to beat him. I am pretty sure the race gas wouldn't have a problem taking him.

Motorcycle cop pulls up next to me on UNI and says "Want to race?"
Me- "I don't think you would stand a chance."
Cop says "probably not" and drives off.

Re: Are 2001 Kawisaki ZX6s fast?

Don't know about the ZX6's but I know you wouldn't have a chance against my ZX6R. That thing is wicked fast for 600cc's. Power to weight is a bitch. 550lbs. with just over 100hp.

You gotta keep the thing runnign for more than a month though first.

Re: Are 2001 Kawisaki ZX6s fast?

It ran before I started modding it more. He said the ZX6R is a lot faster than his. I an guessing it has 95 hp or so. It only needs to run for 1 pull to race him. I can do that now.

Re: Are 2001 Kawisaki ZX6s fast?

Well, 95hp at probably close to 600lbs......6.3lbs per hp.

What is your car putting out for hp?

Car weighs about what, 3100lbs???

You'd have to have about 500hp to match it.

Re: Are 2001 Kawisaki ZX6s fast?

Defenitly not 500. I am hoping for 400 on race gas so maybe I should try that and hope for the best. Thanks.

I thought enes beat a R6 with 319 or something whp. I didn't think the ZX6 was as fast as that even.

Re: Are 2001 Kawisaki ZX6s fast?

The R6 is only a 600cc bike also. I could be a little off on weights and hp, but it would be very close if anything.

Re: Are 2001 Kawisaki ZX6s fast?

Just do it, why are you scared of losing? If you do, so what? Its still better to at least try. Run race gas if you want, or try it on pump then come back with race if needed.

Re: Are 2001 Kawisaki ZX6s fast?

Go ahead and race him, but know that you will lose. Racing in a straight line is all about power/weight ratio. His bike has AT LEAST 80 hp, and weighs no more than 550 I bet with him on it. Compare that to your car.... Those Japanese bikes have a crazy power band from like 3000-13000 RPMs and that is only part of the reason they can run 0-60 in sub 3.5's stock with no problem.

Re: Are 2001 Kawisaki ZX6s fast?

Mine (a ZX6R) is about 550lbs with me on it. I would say a ZX6 weighs more. probably closer to 600 or just a little over. Doesn't matter though, he'll still get beat by it.

Re: Are 2001 Kawisaki ZX6s fast?

You will want a car capable of trapping 120 mph in the 1/4 mile is able to keep up and slowly pull on a 600cc bike. BPU supras do it all the time. I raced a ZX7, R1, R6, and 750cc something, and was able to keep up/beat them at high 500whp. The R1 was obviously the closest of them all.

Re: Are 2001 Kawisaki ZX6s fast?

Same setup as john had but less compression and maybe smaller injectors. I will wait and get it tuned on race gas then see what happens.

Re: Are 2001 Kawisaki ZX6s fast?

A bike is going to crush 95% of the cars on here. A ZX6 would run low 12's in the 1/4 with a good rider. It is pretty old school technology (early 90's). The new 600's are now mid 10's. My 1000 is good for 9.7's in the 1/4 at almost 150. I will have my bike at a track day next month to see what I can do on it. Rider skill is a HUGE deal on a bike, so even though a bike shouldn't have been beaten, they have been because the rider sucks.

So what hp do you think would be needed to take it from a roll? It is the first bike this kid has riden and he hasn't had it that long. He just got the title in the mail today.

Re: Are 2001 Kawisaki ZX6s fast?

For frum rolls you need to look at the mph in the 1/4. His bike is probably going to trap in the low 120's, so you would probably need ~450 whp to be with him.
