Bastard 20G turbo

I came across the search on google where a member was asking about lag between a 16G and a bastard 20G turbo. I have a seal leak in my current 16g and was looking at just upgrading to a bastard 20g. I was hoping to maybe hear the results of the change up but never found anymore posts about the change over. The car I'm running th e turbo in is an automatic as that is the only transmission offered in the platforma dn thought that since the 16g currently doesn't have any lag maybe the bastard 20g would be noticable or very little?

Re: Bastard 20G turbo

The lag on the 20G is OVERRATED. Test it out yourself and you judge it. Lag is also good for FWD cars since the power is transfered to one wheel. Having the right setup will not offer lag. IMO, port the shit out your o2 housing, manifold, head.

Re: Bastard 20G turbo

I had a bastard 20G on my 2G, made 300whp @ 27psi with it. Honestly I would not get that turbo, it is not worth the money if you buy it new. Instead, consider forced performance's new 18G, that would probably be better bang for your buck!

What is your current turbo, a small, big, or evo3 16g? What exactly is wrong with it?

Re: Bastard 20G turbo

it's an evo3 16G, I have a seal leak on the exhaust side, beloows out blue smoke when I let off the gas, it's going to run me approx: $550 to rebuild, I can get a new one for $650 or so, I have very little room as it sits, so maybe just another evo3 16g would be best?

Sure, why not. It's a good turbo and you'd have to make zero changes

On the flip side, there's this:
http://store.forcedperformance.net/m...Code=DSM-Turbo

but if you're only running 7psi, might not see any difference. Any reason a 50-trim wouldn't fit back there?

Re: Bastard 20G turbo

I would like to increase to at least 10psi on the 16G, the space issue is th ebig problem, I'm already crammed inther with the 16g, but the 50 trim looks like it may fit? thanks for the help.

here's the 16g setup

here the install, very little room

How much room do you have on either side of the compressor cover? The hotside should be roughly the same size. If it fits, go for it. Then when you build the bottom end, you could go big, hta35R

If all else fails, I say go for the sleeper 16g from forced performance. Slowboy Racing makes the bastard 20G, and they are aweful to work with and you should not give them any of your money. See their thread in the intro section for more details.

Re: Bastard 20G turbo

You could also see if a standard 20G would fit in there, that would be a tad smaller than the compressor cover on a 50-trim. There's one for sale in the FS section here for a decent price right now! You have the external WG setup and everything you'd need.
