Question on Engine removal

I have a 91 tsi. I it easier to take just the motor out or should i take trans and motor out at once? I was thinking of just pulling the motor but was wondering if i could get the motor back in and clutch aligned. What you guys think? lmk thanks

Re: Question on Engine removal

It's kind of a tight fit to pull the motor out with the tranny in, but it can be done either way. I personally prefer to take them out together. Clutch alignment isn't difficult.

Re: Question on Engine removal

You can get past the shaft that goes into the transmission fine? I was gonna just pull the motor because it looked like a decent amount of more stuff to disconnect by doing both. In my 96 i did both but was gonna try just motor this time.

Re: Question on Engine removal

You need to tilt the tranny up a bit, it's easier on the 1G since all but one mount is on the engine.

Re: Question on Engine removal

I did pull both out out at once. Defiantly was probably easier
