Re: my new project

Well picked up a few goodies today. Picked up some break in oil, tranny fluid, and a new oil cooler.

Still basically undecided on the turbo but I was talking with a guy from rev works on dsmtuners and he has me just about convinced into running boost labs billet Borg Warner s366. So if I can get that up and running on my car with out too much hassle I think that's the route I'm going to go. If I don't do that it will most likely be an fp hta4294 or a gt4202 from a local guy here to keep things easy

Re: my new project

Soooo my dumb ass totally forgot I have an inline filter on my oil fees line for my turbo. So just to be safe I ran a bunch of oil through it and then ordered some new replacement filter elements for it. I'm going to run the 4294 for the break in period on the engine. Once the filters and fittings for my oil cooler show up I'll be able to get this thing running.

The main problem with the turbo is a damaged turbine wheel so the turbo will still be replaced or ill get a new center section. It is still technically usable so I'm going to run it for the break in period then install whatever I end up running before it gets tuned.

Unfortunately funds are becoming an issue with this little project of mine lol.I would love an s400sx with a batmowheel! but they are probably just out of my price range. the s400sx with the billet 67.7mm comp wheel is a possibility though. A 4202 is a real possibility though. I know a local guy that has a brand new one that he'll let go for a decent deal. I'm a little worried the spool compared to the 4294 though

Re: my new project

I was up late working on the car last night. She's just about ready to fire up. I just need a couple tbolt clamps for one of the ic couplers, replacement filter for my oil fees line, adapter fittings for my oil cooler, and to mount the cooler.

Thanks! It will definitely be ready this spring even if I have to stick with my 4294. And I'm definitely down for a liter bike from roll :-)

Re: my new project

Here's a little update. I got my fp oil feed replacement filters today and map shipped my oil cooler fittings today as well. I should them tomorrow or saturday. I should have this thing up and running this weekend.

Also I have been talking to a handful of places about what turbo will be best for my setup. Most have have recommended going away from the gt42. I was talking with the guys from Boostin Performance today via email and what they have said seems to be the best info I have gotten so far. They have recommended an fp hta3794 or a pte cea6766. They were saying either of these should net me the power I want on e85 and with the gearing in a shep stage 4 trans give me a powerband that is better suited to the gearing.

They recommended sticking with ball bearing if I go with a pte but said the journal bearing should hold up fine to the boost levels I want to run. I would love the fp but it's a little out of my price range, I've also kind of been wanting to switch to a borg warner but with the prices MAP can get me a on a pte it's looking like that might be the route I'm going to end up going.

Also if anyone has any info or opinions to share/add to my on going turbo controversy it will be greatly appreciated

Re: my new project

I'd say just pick one and buy it, it'll put your mind at ease not having to think about it anymore

agreed! I'm getting my taxes done this weekend so once I get my return back I'll be buying something. Boostin basically has me convinced go with a 3794,6766, or I'm keeping an s366 in the mix for now. But with the prices map can get me on the precision stuff it's most likely going to be a 6766. Preferably a ball bearing unit if I can swing it since there seems to be a lot less problems with the bb units

6766 JB should do you just fine. Yeah they have issues but map swears by them as they have never personally seen one fail FWIW. If you can swing BB do it if not I wouldn't sweat it.

Re: my new project

You are probably right . That is basically the same thing boostin said. They said go bb if I can just because it will make the power band a little bigger

Yeah I think map and ostar both said the ball bearing will spool a couple hundred rpms quicker.

Re: my new project

With the way the 4294 spools I'm not terribly worried about the spool it should spool okay. I would like to run upwards of 40psi or maybe more if I can that makes me a little leary of pte with some of their reputation. although I've been doing a lot of searching the forums and most of what I found with lots of problems was from a couple years ago
