Gauges look great. Can't wait to see this thing in action. That e85 looks gross too, rusty gas tanks ftl

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

That gas is fine, that tank is mint inside and out. The cooler was dirty and the E85 seperated.

I don't usually look at those center gauges all the time on the street, maybe glance at the trans temp for mental logs, the EGT isn't hooked up yet, and the boost well I don't care about boost its not high enough for me that's all I know! lol.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

It is together and running, but not without issues.

I have a weird noise in the drivetrain (rear end, driveshaft) dependant on speed. I need to figure it out, also my alignment is way the fuck off now, I put in solid poly bushings in the rear mustache bar and filled the driveshaft carrier bearings and installed solid/metal carrier bushings.

Did the counter weight fall off the driveshaft while you had it out?

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

Nope, figured it out my DS angle was off pretty bad. I'm gonna find more info about the specs and get it perfect but its nice and quiet for now. I feel like a dumbass for not messing with it before but oh well.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

So here is way overdue update, its only been about 2-3 weeks but it feels like 2-3 months.

After a local dyno day I took a friend for a ride and then I decided to launch it.
Well apparently 27psi on the 3-bolt wasn't a good idea, to be honest it was like my 10th-11th time doing it so I learned my lesson. Actually I know better I just like doing it.
Results:

I saw that and I was hoping that the axle was just pushed out. So i drained the fluid to see if there were any chunks, that would tell me.

Fluid results are in:

Yep there were chunks and I've never seen fluid that dirty before

If you look at the axle that isn't in the rear end, you will see that the axle is snapped, so 1/3 of it is stuck in the rear end.

More results of no self-control.

Removing the rear end, its so dirty:

Inside of the now not so good rear end.

Thanks to Mo on this one, luckily he was around doing some work for "teh bean" and told me how to fill the carrier bearings, this was my first time in 7 DSMs doing this and thankfully he was there to guide me. Not exactly hard, but I didn't know what I was doing.

Metal sleeves that I removed from the rear mustache bar, I had to use fire.

Hard to see, but there is new carrier bushings in there, all aluminum no more crappy rubber stuff.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

About a week or so later.....
You will need some explaining on why a simple rear end swap turned into this mess.
There was a rusty bolt in one of the cups in the new rear end I had. ($35 for the new rear end with axles) I didn't put any effort into getting it out and then I discovered the bolt sizes were different for the cups, so I said F it, I'll pull everything out and do it the right way.

I think I just wanted an excuse to do this and with no-one to tell me other wise I pulled the whole rear subframe.

Dusty but not rusty:

ABS lines removed! Plastic cup fit in there nice and snug.

Goodbye evil ABS sensor.

So instead of welding in new active toe eliminators and trying to push these bushings out, I came to reality knowing that I wasn't comfortable with my welding skills at the moment and I wanted to make proving grounds 2011.
At this point the car has been apart for about 2.5 weeks
Filled mounts.

RR Side:

LR Side:

There was supposed to be a before and after, not sure where the after photo is, but its a lot cleaner now. I just wiped it down.

Almost back together again! Its about 10th june.

This is proof that the stock stuff is worn out, I'm sure that was me that did most of that.

What?!! These things come with a jack? bye bye extra weight.

Voltage gauge install.

Here is the pic of my fuel pump install, I can't remember the last time i did one of these, maybe 2007?
I'm quite proud of this, because if i didn't tell you. You would have a hard time telling its an aftermarket. Apart from being fat. lol.

All buttoned up, and now I know the voltage at the fuel pump.

6-20-11
Preparing for FMIC install.

Yes that is a sidemount intercooler, yes it has seen 27psi lots of times and whooped a mustang gt (probably stock minus pipes)

SO this might be one of the many cause my car liked to run hot, dirty *CENSORED* coolant.

Time to do some cutting!!

The broseph doing what he does best, welding some mounts on my FMIC.

My sweet E316G, look close though.

I told you to look close, the comp. wheel is chipped I bought it like this.

Fabbing pipes, this was a somewhat fun night kinda like old times working late during the week to get the car done for an event.

6-24-2011
Progress, probably about 11pm.

More welding after measuring and stuff. Please note "stuff" may not be safe for children and small animals. lol

I was an idiot and picked up ugly aluminum angle iron, I got an earful about this.

He is welding aluminum, with a welder he hasn't touched in 2-3 years, upside down and while laying down.

I wasn't ready for this, but the stock untouched bumper fits great with the ETS 4" thick FMIC.

Oh, I forgot to mention my bro fit my 4" thick FMIC under a stock untouched bumper cover with room to spare.

Lowest clearance part is about an inch. He just made putting AC back into this thing a lot easier.

I didn't want anyone make stuff for this car that I believed that I can do/will be able to do. But I can honestly say if I get close to the level he is at right now I will be happy.

A big thanks, it was fun as usual.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

Ok, so we are at today.
7-7-2011.

I didn't make it to MAP's Proving Grounds 6/26. A friend was supposed to bring me a 12" electric fan and did not. I was a little upset, but not really. When I got this car I told my wife and myself that I would not rush anything with this car to make any kind of event or for any reason really.
The week of proving grounds I did exactly that and to be honest, IT SUCKED. I was dead tired and stressed.
Thankfully that weekend I had a lot of fun, I missed my wife, but I have great friend that showed me a good time and I hope it will be a tradition for us.

Back to the car, well until now I really haven't had time or money to mess with the car. Now I have time but I have no $$$$, i mean no $$$.

TO do this the right way, I need cooling fans, head studs (Motor is 100% stock longblock), probably need a radiator. I am planning on keeping my A/C, so I can't cheap out plus I never planned on cheaping on anything with this car.

I will grab some updated pics, and over the next few weeks clean up my part of the FMIC install that I'm not happy with and get everything else in the car ready for when I do have $$$ to buy parts.

Quick list of things to get, in order.

-Headstuds (A1/H11)
-Intake pipe (It'll work, but I should be able to make one on the cheap. I've started using the welder!)
-Cooling fan (I have a 10" for the AC/Driver side, but I will need to buy a nice one for the main fan)
-Radiator. (Probably will be 3 core mishimoto full size, i wanted to do a half, but I'll need all the cooling capacity I can get)

I think that's it to get the car running and driving again, I'll have to upgrade to the full version of DSMlink V3 because I'm on a TiAL BOV that doesn't recirc it was free and the 1G wouldn't cut it.

I'll try and get pics of how the car sits soon.
As of today the goal is to make some passes in early/mid september and have a handful of passes before the end of the season.

IF i'm still on this 16G then low 12s maybe break this big girl into the 11s, if not I'm not sure.

PM me with what fan you have, I'm going to order a nice 12" fan but I'll need one for the driver/AC side.

Amazing update! The underside of that car is very clean for it's age... gah seeing this makes we want to fix my car.

^lol. I could never hate something that you gave me. :hugs:

I'm just made at myself for being an idiot and not checking the box to make sure it was empty.

Those angle piece have the FMIC mounted and that it was counts for now.

Thanks for the comments guys it makes me carry on this thread. Sadly I'm not seeing the next time this thing will run with $$$ being tight as far as I can see into the future.
