Tranny recommendations/opinions/reviews

Well its that time for me to replace my stock clutch and tranny and i was wondering what you guys would suggest? What experiences have you had with some of the vendors out there?
Since most of you might have seen i am going with a basic setup, so i won't need a race tranny basically just a rebuild, but who should i go to?
I am thinking shep, but i am considering TRE and Turbotrix.
Thx
Aaron

Re: Tranny recommendations/opinions/reviews

My vote goes to Turbotrix and I strongly recomend against TRE. I don't know much about Shep.

As for a clutch, I recomend either a Competition Clutch (hit me up for more info since most DSMers don't know much about this brand) or a Southbend since lots of people have had good luck with those. I advise against ACT; a Clutchmasters Stage 3 is good too but fairly pricey, I also loved my Centerforce Dual-Friction but seems like they don't hold the AWD as well.

Shep is the way to go from what I hear. I had shindley rebuild my 1G tranny, that was a good deal b/c it was local and it saved me time and money, but I'm sure Shep would've done a lot better job on it.

Re: Tranny recommendations/opinions/reviews

I'm going with Shep, and ACT on my new car I've had ACT 2600lb w/ street disks on my mildly modified cars. They took lots of abuse just fine, and had great street manners. One also had a Fidanza flywheel; it allowed the engine to rev more freely and improve response, but the car had some issues trying to keep the revs up when it fell towards the idle RPM. Anyone who says the pedal feel for a 2600lb clutch is "too heavy" needs to stop being a pansy. My 20G car originally had a Clutchmaster's clutch, and it sucked cock.

I would vote Shep. I have heard good thing and nothing but good things. Also I have an ACT 2600 and Its worked fine for me too, and the pedal is not hard at all.

Re: Tranny recommendations/opinions/reviews

I personally had my tranny rebuilt by Shep and I would highly recommend him to anyone. He was very helpful and his communication was awesome. My tranny never felt better. I'm happy with my ACT 2600, although there was a lot of adjusting required before I finally got everything working right (ie Master Cylinder Rod adjustment). I'm hearing good things about the Southbend Clutches though, so you may wanna check them out as well.
