What's the good word on tranny fluid?

Been a while since I've delta with tranny fluid for the dsm's, used to use synchro mesh etc, so my Q is what is everyone using now? What mix or what fluid, also what do you guys recommend for the tcase and rear end.

Mines been shifting well on Amsoil MTG. I picked it up at North Branch Synthetics for dealer price of $11.45/qt IIRC.

Most people use the Redline cocktail, 2qt of MT90 and 1qt of MTL mixed up and then put into tranny and rear diff.

Re: What's the good word on tranny fluid?

Redline MT-85 has eliminated the need for the Redline cocktail. Redline is the only transmission fluid I use, and I'm about as anal as it gets when it comes to shifter feel.

Yeah, the new Redline MT-85 is the way to go. No mixing. Most of the old Mitsu trannies (3/S and DSM) are using this. I'm probably due on changing my three.

The Evo 8/9 also use the MT-85, and the X can too in warmer climates.

That's really good to know a lot less hassle. You guys know of a place to get locally I did see orileys carrys it but haven't stopped in there to see if they have it on shelf. Might just order it when I order a new friction surface for my fidanza.

MTG is a good fluid, but its a 90wt oil rather than 85wt which these trannies want.

Re: What's the good word on tranny fluid?

^ I read through the threads on tuners before I decided to try it. Couldn't find any first hand evidence of anyone running into problems with it.

Shifting felt less notchy to me with the amsoil compared to redline after installing new bronze synchro rings from Jack's in two different transmissions.

Has the amsoil caused any type of failure for anyone here?

Transmission only. The transfer case takes a GL-5 90W fluid, such as Mitsu's OEM Diaqueen 90W LSD. If you'd prefer aftermarket synthetic, you can use Mobil 1 75W-90, Redline 75W-90, etc.

*edit*
The above info is for Evos, I would think DSM's would be the same, but you'll need to verify that.

Re: What's the good word on tranny fluid?

I've done some searching on tuners and it's kind of a mix of answers... drive train is finally going back in the talon this weekend so I'm going to have to figure it out soon, probably just a little more searching on tuners and I'll find then correct answers, but I did find a kit of redline that I think will work that comes with everything I'll need. So you are correct kracka.

Redline says to use the MT-85 in the transmission and transfer case.
