What tuning setup would be the best?

Im just wondering what you guys thing would be the best setup for my situation? The options I have seemed to come across that not out of my price range are ECMlink, Keydriver chip, the new Megasquirt setup. I also read about people putting a evo ecm in and im ignorant to how that is done and what the setups are for that.

My power goal is 300 which i should be close to with what I got(with bigger injectors). I just wonder what else people are doing. I know link seems to be prefered but I like to hear what other people are running and how it does. Really what I want is to be able to do a little more that what i can with the neo. Like to compensate for bigger injectors and deal with that bastard fuel cut. Im not messing with e85 for the time being just because it seems like it's inconsistant unless u get it at the same spot each time.

This is my 3rd dsm. 1st was a 1.8 1g(lame but almost 40mpg when gas was over 3$ a gallon) 2nd was a 96tsi awd auto that was mint until it was murdered in front of porkys last summer by a kid with a v8 s10 that didnt know how to drive. I got this thing as a replacement but whoever had the car before did his best to screw everything up that he touched. so im finnaly to the point where most of the bugs are worked out but I still seem to find something once a week that makes me cry a little on the inside. Untill I can find a clean awd shell and have the money at the time to get it I gotta deal with this heap.

Anyway, here's my list of go fast stuff-nothing special but a solid foundation, I think.
95 tsi awd *rusty*
7 bolt that crankwalked at 90k and was fixed by mitsubishi with some kind of magical bearings that are supposed to make it not do that again(not my doing and sounds like bs to me. I would have just done a 6bolt swap, but it's what I have to work with right now)
APEXi NEO (it works cause apexi reprogramed it but im now aware of its limitations)
Zeitronix zt2/zrt wideband/datalogger
RC 550 injectors
EVOIII big 16g turbo
Walbro 255lph fuel pump
Godspeed fmic (cheap but it works pretty good)
1g dsm bov
megan 3" downpipe
hks cat back minus cat
hks 272 cams
injen intake w k&n filter
hallman pro mbc
and im sure there is more that im forgeting.

Sorry for the long story but thats what I got to work with. Pick it apart and let me know what im doing wrong and what need to do.

Re: What tuning setup would be the best?

the way i see it as you got 2 options, since it seems like you got a good foundation of mods.

if you plan on modding beyond this point, go with ecu link, it will give you the ability to control just about everything and control all future upgrades.

option 2 is if you are not going to go much past this point with upgrades would be a dyno tune from shane at db performance, he will throw down a great tune for your setup. at about half the price of ecmlink.

shane is an amazing tuner, eculink is a great product but does require alot of DIY

I also vote link, but you might be hard pressed to get 300 on 92/93 octane with that Evo3 16g.

Re: What tuning setup would be the best?

Well Im not sure how much more modding im willing to do until I got a decent body to work with. I have kicked around the idea of building a 2.3 during the winter too. So maybe I should wait till tax refund time to get link and deal with what I got until then. It should be enough to have some serious fun out on the lake this winter.

Still kinda curious how this works? Im about 87% sure that I have a eprom in the car now. (I had it out and in my hands and im pretty sure the numbers lined up for it, but that was almost a year ago) If it would take care of the fuel cut and idle issues and still let me use the AFC (like keydriver) i might go that route for now.

I think this spring I want to do the ECMlink or AEM but if this would be a quick fix that would get me through the winter it may be worth it.

Re: What tuning setup would be the best?

Yea they are, unless someone swapped it out with another 2g ecu to steal the EPROM haha.

You wouldn't need an AFC if you had Shane burn you a chip, it would be customized to your current setup, much more so than a standard keydiver chip would be. But the disadvantage is that you can't reprogram it like DSMLink, but it would have all the same features.

Re: What tuning setup would be the best?

^thanks

Thats what I was kinda looking for. Im not too worried with changing it as im running 93 and I'm not doing anything wild with it anyway. (at least till spring). I just want to take care of a couple things that have been bugging me.

If i can get a good baseline with a burned chip, I could leave in the the neo and adjust a little if need be. I realize that the AFC's have unfortunate side effects with things like timing, so I don't want to mess with it too much.
