Don't get a GT3076R though, unless you are getting it cheap and only looking for something 50-trim sized.

Re: Help me choose a turbo setup!

Anyone have anything BAD to say about the Holset HX35?

Also, I just picked up a Tial 38mm for $100!

Re: Help me choose a turbo setup!

Read a lot about the Holset; not many people using them.... But the ones who are have impressive results and are happy with them?

Re: Help me choose a turbo setup!

For your goals the BEP housing HX-35 is the way to go. Another option if you want to spend the money would be Borg Warner bolt on S200 series turbo.

Re: Help me choose a turbo setup!

I'm most likely going to be buying the Holset and housing brand new, because I'm an idiot. So the cost is similar... It's not about the price, it's finding a turbo I will be satisfied with.

Re: Help me choose a turbo setup!

That was the original plan lol. I have been watching a few turbos on ebay, and have looked at what the diesel guys sell their "14Bs" for.

Re: Help me choose a turbo setup!

I've decided anything is better than a 14B, but I'm not gonna shell out $1700 for just a turbo, and not to mention the $$$ setup that has to go with it. I can get a turbo setup that will make me happy and meet my goals for a lot less.

Re: Help me choose a turbo setup!

I know someone with a VR4 that has HKS 272 cams reground to HKS 280. He has the internal wastegate HX35/w BEP housing and it hits full boost 19psi before 4000rpm, and that's with 280 cams. I was really impressed how that car pulled at 19psi.

check out this site.

Don't mean to get off topic.
They were reground way back in the early 90'S. They were a prototype from WEB cams. When HKS 272's were not even thought of for a street car and there were no HKS 280's for DSM in the US. His cams were bought off NABER back in the day. When all there was was HKS and WEB cams. So Web reground the HKS 272 to be more aggressive. To me personally they feel a step or two above HKS 280. He is the fourth owner. Cams ran 11.40 with a 16g in the early 90's. They are so aggressive there is no vacuum on them at idle, on a stock head. A true race cam. What were you running back then?

Back on tract. The HX-35 is a good look for 400-500whp goals.
