I replaced the thermostat with an Advanced Auto 180 one. Was my first step into trying to fix the coolant temps.

The pictures show the large gap between the radiator and stock fan shroud. Tomorrow i'm going to take a picture of the stock radiator with my spare stock fan and if I can find a tape measure laying around i'll measure the difference between stock rad /stock fan, and mishimoto/stock fan.

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.

Foam tape works very well for filling the gaps between the fan shroud and radiator. Sounds like you have a good cooling setup now. I ran a 180* in my 1G and had no issues with it over-heating; if this doesn't fix your problem then there are likely other issues to dig in to as well. You could try ceramic coatings on the exhaust manifold and turbine housing, a turbo blanket on the turbine housing, and most simply, running as many of the stock heatshields as possible (appears you already have one on the ex mani which is great).

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.

^Good suggestions, I've seen all of those come up a lot.
I need to get some blankets/heatshielding on my setup.

I just wanted to say that be mindful of your coolant temps as far as fuel trims go and remember a hotter engine is more efficient, you just want to be able to cool it down when needed.

Did you try some ducting under the car to force air into the radiator? I did that on my car and it cruises at a cooler temp and seems to cool a lot better with the fans on.

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.

So I realize its only my first day driving the car to work. But so far today it was raining heavily outside temp is 81. And the coolant temps stayed pretty much at 200. Saw a few 203's

But I think the much larger gap in the radiator to fan needs to be addressed.

Any suggestions or idea's?

Some how i completely missed this post when I posted early asking for advice....

I am going the foam tape route, plan to do it this Saturday morning. I have my first car show this Saturday. My wife asked me to go, its basically a cancer fundraiser, no trophies or anything, just donate/entry fee $10 and its public choice, and my wife will do free photo shoot of all cars entered (my idea). A friend of my wife just lost her mom recently and its for the local hospice.

My car is no where near show worthy but $10 to a good cause (I asked if I could just give her $10) but being a small town there isn't going to be many cars to start with so she asked me to bring the car.

EDIT: side note got another mod in the mail today ($3 winning bid got to love it. It cost me $27 for my BMW one a few months back that I had to replace when my 2yr old decided it was fun to play hide and go seek with all our keys one day.) Best part is kids went nuts when they saw the package was from china lol, oh to be a kid again.

Still researching tape.

Started with my local race store and came up with this.... even says many automotive applications right on the packaging lol. Is this the correct stuff?
http://www.lowes.com/ProductDisplay?...llow&cId=PDIO1

Several threads I read said it needs to be high density, waterproof, and closed cell.

That should be fine.

Sounds fun about the car show, post up some pics next week. Small town car shows typically tend to bring out some pretty interesting stuff that you wouldn't expect.

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.

That'd work. All you need is to fill that void with something. Also if there's any gaps between say the AC condensor and radiator, you can try sealing that as well. The ideal setup will basically force all air that comes through the front all the way through the raidator. Any paths that the air can escape before it reaches the radiator, try and close them off. That's perfect world, real world just do the best you can.

Agreed, you definitely want to use the foam tape to also fill any gaps between the A/C condenser and the radiator!

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.

We had a bearing go out on our calendar at work and we wont have a new one till monday so been off since Wed night. And figured I'd get some work done on the car.

And what started out as a minor cleaning turned into one O.C.D. moment after another I got started and just couldn't stop.

I started off by vacuuming the car trying to get all the cotton fibers from work out of everything, then wasn't happy with the dirt/stains, so I borrowed my father in laws power washer and washed the carpet, the plastics. Didn't get clean enough for me so I figured well I'll just die the carpet. But figured hey I plan to go full black so i'll just die it black now. I followed the tutorials on tuners, end well it got out of hand. And I also found some rust on the rear hatch when i pulled the plastics off so i'll address that when taxes come in.
I was also happy to find a full Kenwood Audio set up in the car, and I found a wire which I thought was my antenna wire hanging down so I did some research to figure out where it went on my stereo and to my excitement turns out not only is my stereo a touch screen but it also plays DVD's. So took my son for a ride when I was all done putting the car back together and installing the foam for the radiator/fan.
And we watched the movie "cars" on our way to Mcdonald's for icecream. My son was so excited lol.

I still need to do the dash and then swap out the rubber moldings for black (if they made them in black, haven't looked yet as I want to get my A-pillar pod, and gauges before I spend anymore money lol)

haven't been able to drive it other then into town to the Mcdonald's.

So far outside temps are in the high 80's, and the car was running 196-200, and then hitting 203 when I parked the car.

My little girl got sick this morning around 430am and is running a fever so no car show for me today. Wife has to be there as shes is the photographer so she went, but I'm staying home with the kids.

Found out yesterday that the 1/8th mile track that is 8 miles from me is still open (I thought it had closed down) but wife was handing out flyers yesterday for the fundraiser and some one mentioned they should head down to the track and hand them out there as well as there was a race going on since it was Friday.

I also should have taken before pictures of the roofliner and trunk carpet, both where stained pretty bad from greasy hands.
