Re: I think I found it.

Take the picture with a piece of paper or something straight as well, helps show if they are lined up. Do the evo's have the dowels on the cam gears like DSM's do? Are those pointing straight up as well along with the crank pulley showing tdc?

If you could line up the crank pulley with the tdc mark and take a pic of the cam gears that would be much more helpful.
I will take some pics when I get off work tomorrow. I have to go to bed I get up at 5am for work.

Re: I think I found it.

He wasn't blaming me. I was the last one to touch the cam gears when I moved the cam gears on the dyno from the DSM dowel pin hole to the Evo dowel pin hole, which ended up picking up some decent top end power, but it was still way down on power and motor was making weird noises(probably the idler pulley he found). Best bet might be to put some stock cam gears on it and line everything up properly/tension it properly with the timing belt cover off.

Yep, identical, except the timing marks on the cam gears are angled up on the top of the valve cover.

That sounds pretty nice to have. I suppose a dsmer could do the same thing by just lining up the timing marks normally then making his own marks on the valve cover. May eliminate some confusion and make it easier to line up the cam gears properly.

It's okay I guess, but definitely better than worrying if you have your straight edge across the cam bolts actually straight or not.

Re: I think I found it.

How your car is running is beyond me. Has it always been like this or what?

Re: I think I found it.

Yea, thats way off. Was the mark on the crank pulley lined up somehow and not the one on the sprocket? The cam marks and crank pulley marks were all lined up correctly after I moved the cams gears to the correct dowel holes.

Re: I think I found it.

Let's play a game called get some stock cam gears on there, stat. Or, at least get a set you can use as reference, that is just redonk dude.

Seriously, how on earth does the car even run? Is there something else going on here we don't know about? DSM Cams in it or something crazy?

I am willing to trade my cam gear's for stock one's.

I think my timing belt is loose that's why it moved. It has nothing to do with what you did.

Re: I think I found it.

I just noticed you are missing a nut on one of the adjustment bolts on the intake cam gear also. I know you bought the car like this, but I wonder how the hell cam gears get so beat up like that??!?! Reminds me of the Greddy type S that was on my car when I got it, it was so beat up it looked like it fell off the car somehow and went tumbling down the road. Not sure how a BOV would get all beat up either...

Re: I think I found it.

Your crank sprocket must have skipped 2 teeth, equaling 4 teeth on each cam. Judging by that last pic it definitely seems possible, looks like the belt is trying to skip again, so loose.

Re: I think I found it.

definitly reset the TDC, have the tensioner checked or replaced, then do a leakdown test to verify that the valves are not bent.

Re: I think I found it.

I got the car back together and it runs good. but now there is a knock under load from 2000 to about 4000 rpm and the knock goes a way when there is no load on the motor. That one noise went away to with the new idler pulley that I put in. I plan on hooking my lad top to it and see what is going on with the knock.
