I'll be attending ~5 events (probably MOWOG's) and maybe a Test N Tune or two this year. I assume Toothy (Brandon) will be at few events this year with his beastly White IX RS which is fully prepped for ASP. He's good. And he's an Instructor so you should be able to ride with him. I rode along with him and learned way more than I would've guessed.

MAC's Novice School is supposed to be pretty good, though I've only attended the classroom portion of it. It goes over the basics of an event day on Day 1 and on Day 2 you get a bunch of runs in your car, instructors ride with you, and I think you might be able to ride with instructors.

Test N Tunes are a GREAT place to learn. You can easily get in 20 runs, ride along with others, and even switch cars with someone. If we're both at one, I'd be happy to give a ride-along; I'll reserve switching cars for only the best opportunities.

As someone else said, don't at all wait for a certain car to start. You might actually learn more and quicker with a lesser car. Attend a few events and you can see a bunch of cars, a bunch of classes, and start to sort out your desired car based on those things. I find myself embarrassed to say I want a Miata in any circle of gearheads which don't autocross-- IF I got one, it'd be nearly dedicated to AutoX though . But go to a few events and you'll begin to understand why.
For me, getting the Miata got me into trying AutoX and I love it. I have no desire to ever drag race again in all honestly, though I'm sure I will down the road, I wouldn't ever consider building a car for it.

I think I went to every MOWOG event last year in the Miata and had a blast. I had an instruct ride along with me at various times during the season as well as had co-drivers to compare myself to and challenge me in my own car, this was a BIG help to watch my own car handle from outside the car.

The test and tune events are BY FAR the best value for seat time, but you need to be alert in what you are doing wrong, opposed to just doing run after run for the fun of it, that is if you want to actually get anything out of the event.
