Andrew I don't think it'll work quite like that. I'll be routering the top exposed edge. It'd probably look odd if I routered that edge on all 4 faces. Also I plan to screw it down (I'll put screws up from the bottom). So if I were to flip this thing over, the new top surface would be full of holes.
However this top was made from a 4x8 sheet of 1/2" MDF. Sheet was literally just cut in half the long way (so two 2x8 sheets), then just cut down to about 85" long. So in the future if the top ever gets really bad, I can literally just run to home depot, spend $20 on a new sheet (and they can cut it in house on their saw), bring it home and screw it back down and be back in business.
