Considering the cost and the likelyhood of frame damage, I would do the shell thing as well, especially with it being front drive. There is a kid down here named jeremy that just destroyed his motor and tranny in his front drive, called me looking to sell it cheap. It was just painted and doesn't look bad for a budget job.
