He meant out of the 12 point scale.  Our high school was out of the 12 point scale and I have never heard of the 5 point scale. My schools never gave out A+.

Motorcycle cop pulls up next to me on UNI and says "Want to race?"
Me- "I don't think you would stand a chance."
Cop says "probably not" and drives off.
