500 whp is WAY more than most people realize. Do your other mods first and start enjoying them. Once you get in the upper 400's, then start thinking about building an engine. Why not take the $3k you would spend on an engine and get a turbo, FMIC, SAFC, fuel pump and injectors? You could have a 12 sec car on pump gas, which is enough to keep most people happy for a bit.
