Is the fluid on the bottom of the tranny brake fluid or tranny fliud? That would be the eas way to tell what kind of leak it is. One loose tranny bolt with the rest torqued down properly will not give you much of any problem. That would not cause the tranny to leak fluid. My bet is on the tranny not havig any/enough fluid in it. My friends 96 gst had the same problem. Trans started to shift shitty, progressed to not wanting to go into gears, and not wanting to drive. He never told me about it and ended up without anymore tranny fluid in it. His tranny was unrebuildable. Needed to buy another. I would seriously check the fluid before making any substansial trip.

I use the Hughes method also to fill tranny fluid. Takes forever. I should try the pump method. It takes a long time for the fluid to drain out of the hose. Maybe it is just the cold weather...
