Probably because it's the only music they play on MTV or the radio. The only station I know that takes chances is Drive 105 (and they still don't compare to some internet streaming stations I listen to). The internet is the best place for new music and we see how well the industry is embracing that. Most of the ClearChaneel stations have a 10-20 song playlist that they force down your throut all day. That's why this crappy music sells, it's the only music some people are exposed to.
