Over the few years I have been in the community I have changed my tone quite a bit. I admit I use to be very very active in the street racing community, 4-5 times a week, cruising for races, etc..that all got shutdown hard that one night erik mentioned. And it was 4+hours for me erik .
Raptor brings up a point, everyone has there wrong do-ings, some are just more 'mainstream' than others, and it really varies in each community.
If you look around you do occasionally find me out and about, I wish we had a track locally to race on, the community is getting close to getting organized on an opinion, and thats a good way to start a movement.
Street Racing is another reason I took my perfectly good running car apart. I knew I wouldn't have enough time to run it at the track for the next long while, so I would end up testing parts elsewhere. Since I didn't want to go down that path again, I decided it would be best to 'part it out' for the long run, that way when its back together, it would be only suited for the track. I sincerely hope we have a track by the time my project is completed.
I still hang out, but the days of 'organized' street racing in 'herds' is long over. The police don't stand for it anymore, the public doesn't stand for it anymore, hell the 'street' racers don't stand for it anymore, im not talking about all the bunched up 15 second cars that watch 2fast 2 stupid every night before they go out. Im talking the 8-10 second street cars that gather in various locations. The guys that have been doing this for 5+years.
The runs are usually heads up, only 1 or 2 per location, and spread out over a month. Long gone are the days when a 'colony' of fast cars can be formed within the twin cities. It might go on in other parts of the country, but I tip my had to the state patrol and St. Paul PD, they have done an outstanding job this year to contain the activity. I guess for me the 'thrill' of street racing in huge groups has all passed on. That is the point some of the 'senior' members of this board are trying to make, alot of us were there, alot of us have more to lose/more wisdom behind us.
That being said, I understand the viewpoints of the people that continue to organize, I understand the thrill of doing it illegally, but please take it from me, don't amass in groups of 100's or more. Its very dangerous, and not nearly as much fun as getting a slip to 'prove how fast your 10 second car' really is.
Just my $.02, if you don't like it :fworld:
I guess my final thought is the big organized centeralized street racing is highly dangerous. When people are watching and grouped together, fights break out, people get run over, people get killed, I've been around for people getting hit on bikes and killed, being shot at, and fist fights, not fun stuff.
