The couch idea works perfectly, but the absolute drunkenness was your downfall. Being too drunk to have a smooth delivery is the fastest way to scare the chicks away. I've used that couch thing many times, but only once did a girl actually sleep on the couch, and she came in the next morning and hopped on. Most girls like that soft approach, it works great.
