you're missing the point. had you called right away, and possibly if you call now, and say you have had your car up and running 3 weeks and need to have it covered, they will insure you FROM 3 WEEKS AGO and charge you for it

on a new car, you have up to 30 days to call your insurance company and they will backdate 30 days

i assume it's the same on resuming coverage

call NOW and get the insurance and ask for proof of insurance from that date.
