First is call up a credit place like equifax or some shit that allows you to find out what's on your credit. If they have been trying to collect in the past 4 years it should show there. Get a copy of it and if it shows nothing, and they take you to court with no paperwork and you have paperwork they will lose.
I spent a few good years in the cell phone business and know all their little tricks for billing, shutting phones off and well just about every inch on how it all works.
If they call be nice, deny everything, make them get paperwork, and watch them go away.
