Re: The Gun Thread
Well bringing this back from the dead since I have something I can actually post.
So I've been wanting to build an AR for a long time. I bought a stripped lower receiver about 7 years ago since I had a permit back then and that's the piece you need a permit for. But I just never got around to building it.
So fast forward to a few weeks ago. One of my coworkers is a big gun guy (still in Navy Reserves) and we got to talking and he said he has all the tools and could build it for me. So I took him up on the offer. I renewed my permit and we started picking out parts. In the end I want to build two. I wanted one that's more of a badass tactical FDE looking one, and then a longer barrel varmint style one. So we watched for deals and it seemed like the deals we found were for the tactical one so we started with that one. Here's what we ended up with:
- Bought a new Anderson stripped lower. Since I have my new permit, and I ultimately want to build 2 AR's, and prices are dirt, figured why not just another lower right now.
- Lower Parts kit build the lower (don't recall the brand)
- AR Stoner assembled upper w/ low-profile gas block & flash suppressor & 16" 7:1 barrel (5.56 chamber)
- Magpul FDE stock, Magpul FDE front vertical grip, Magpul FDE MBUS flip up sights.
- Monstrum FDE 10" Rail/Keymod Freefloat, Monstrum FDE handguard inserts (not shown).
Pretty much sums up the parts that were used for the rifle itself. I may eventually get a red dot for it, but for now I wanted to just play with normal sites since that's all we ever used in the Marines.
In total with the deals we found, it came out to around $500-$550 for the entire build. I also bought some general stuff like six Amend2 black magazines (30rnd) & two HexMag FDE magazines (30rnd), 500 rounds of ammo, bunch of cleaning stuff, Plano case, and other misc things. Need to get to the range and try it out and zero it in, can't wait!
