Corrosion of metals is from oxidization, which is just as easily caused by the oxygen in the air as it is by the oxygen in water. Most, if not all manual boost controllers are made of aluminum bodies, aluminum or brass fittings, and stainless steel balls and springs. If any of the parts are mild steel they'll rust the same as if they're touched by water or not.
