I just made mine a nice smooth transition instead of a hard 90-degree curve. You don't need to go that deep.
Speaking of that, I didn't notice any difference doing this, I still have a slight lifter tick and my oil pressure was still really high until I ported the beejeebus out of the oil relief valve. I just did this because it seems like a good idea and I port everything for smooth flow. Me and my cabinet of flapper wheels and bits are close buddies.
