Re: Back at it

Now that I'm not a walking zombie... UPDATE TIME!

The day started off bad for me. After one hour of sleep, we made it to the track.

The first run I launched at 5k stutterbox only and bogged really hard. I hear something break but kept going. I opened the hood immediately after the track turn off. My power steering upper bracket bolt SHEARED OFF! I left the belt on to see how it would do for the next run, since I still had power steering at the wheel. I ran a 14.09 at 114.

Next run I antilag and launch at 5k again. Another horrible bog and still falling out of boost like crazy between shifts. This run was 13.94 @ 116. The car had died right at the finish line. I coasted to a stop after the turn off, ran and got my ticket and came back. By now two track workers were checking out my car. After thinking my motor was toast, I had one of them crank the motor for me and I noticed it had 0 fuel pressure. Got tow strapped to my tools and started tearing the car apart to the fuel pump. The KB Boost A Pump had blown it's 25 amp fuse. I thought these were supposed to be 30 or 40? I replaced it with a 40 amp courtesy of Brian. I also cut the power steering belt. Thank you Burd and Brian of MAP for helping me scrounge up a fuse!

Third run I got a decent launch but 2nd didn't want to NLTS. So I let out of it and got it in, and of course the turbo fell straight on it's face. By this time me and the trans had a mutual understanding of each other. It was going to crunch 2nd and 3rd EVERY TIME, no exceptions. And I was going to smash it in until it did, EVERY TIME.

The fourth run I ran a 13.09 @ 116. The car had progressively gotten worse with breaking up. This run I had to shift at 7k into 4th just to keep it clean. I had been shifting at 8k prior.

At this point my testing was done, I knew a lot needed to change. I had been cutting 2.0+ 60's this whole time and falling way out of boost every shift. I decided it was time to go for broke. I cranked the antilag up and was now building 15psi on the line instead of 6, I also changed my rpm limit to 9k.

I was hot lapping knowing the time trials would be over soon. I changed my tune on the fly and told Christa to get Swift to gap a new set of plugs for me and bring the tools. I wish someone had recorded a video of this because I was sitting in my car, in the lanes, with Christa, Swift and Josh changing my spark plugs and pushing the car forward as needed. They finally got the last plug in with only two cars ahead of me at the line.

This next run was ridiculous. I absolutely NAILED the launch, NAILED 2nd and of course... 3rd didn't want to go in!!!!! I crunched her good for way longer than I should've trying to get it go let me in. I ended up saying F it and coasted to a finish 15.8 @66. The funny thing about this run is I was running a Civic coupe who did 16 something at 88 and I still beat him!

That was my last run and I had a great time. Great to see a lot of friends at the track. Thanks Christa, Brian, Burd, Swift and Josh for the help during this outing.

So my conclusion to this event is I need a trans. I had thought about joining the bandwagon for auto, but 5 speed is where I want to be.
